Job Description
Position preforms progressively responsible work in the troubleshooting, installation, maintenance, and repair of roadway signage systems. Individual must be open to learning roadside signage system, be mechanically inclined, have experience with general troubleshooting procedures, and have a general knowledge of common mechanical tools. The Signs & Markings Technician will gradually be assigned more difficult tasks, exercise sound judgement, and be expected to operate independently during the course of employment.
Key Responsibilities & Performance Standards
- Replaces, installs, washes, and preforms general maintenance of traffic signs.
- Operates the post drivers, and other miscellaneous tools.
- Perform the duties and responsibilities of the Traffic Engineering Safety Manager.
- Participates in 24 hour on-call rotation for traffic signs.
- Maintains assigned equipment.
- Assists with fabricating special signs.
- Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.
POSITION SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIESMIGHT INCLUDE:
- Inspects job sites and public streets for compliance with the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD), Augusta-Richmond County regulations, and Georgia Department of Transportation
- Travel required from office to other locations on a regular
- Will act as 24-hour on-call back-up for street sign on-call
- Individual will also be assigned the Traffic Engineering Safety Manager title and all of the duties and responsibilities required as part of that commission.
- Assists in training newly hired Signs & Markings Technician
- Percentages associated with key responsibilities and performance standards may vary based on area of assignment
Qualifications
Education: High School diploma or GED
Preferred: Trade school certification in related field
Experience: Two (2) years field experience in traffic sign maintenance and use and care of mechanical tools and equipment
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
- Familiarity with Manual On Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD).
- Proficient with the w;e and care of common mechanical equipment and
- Good communication skills, both oral and
- Demonstrated ability to work independently as well as cooperatively with
Certification/Licensing:
- Possession of a valid driver's license with good driving history. If State license is other than Georgia or South Carolina, applicant must obtain a license in Georgia or South Carolina within 30 days of
- Possess IMSA Work Zone Safety Certification
- Possess IMSA Signing and Marking Level I
