Job Description

What to Expect

Tesla's electronics design teams are pushing for high-bandwidth and high-performance designs across two fast-growing domains: energy storage systems and AI compute infrastructure. As link rates climb and power densities increase, signal and power integrity have become first-order design constraints. As an SI/PI engineer at Tesla, you will be one of the subject-matter experts embedded with the Energy LV and AI Compute EE teams, owning analysis and review from early architecture through validation and production release.

What You’ll Do

  • Own SI/PI analysis end-to-end across Energy and AI Compute programs: channel modeling, pre-layout simulation, post-layout validation, and hardware correlation
  • Drive SI/PI across a broad mix of designs:
  • AI compute motherboards with DDR5/LPDDR5, PCIe Gen5/6, and 100G/200G/400G Ethernet
  • X86/Arm based platforms with DDR/LPDDR memory, PCIe, USB, and cellular RF interfaces
  • Multi-port Ethernet switch at 1G/10G, plus automotive single-pair variants (100BASE-T1, 1000BASE-T1, 10BASE-T1S)
  • High-speed serial links (40 Gbps+) traversing non-ideal connectors in high-noise, high-power energy environments
  • Mixed-signal energy systems: LVDS, PWM, and analog sense lines routed across multi-meter cabinet harnesses
  • Define and maintain SI/PI design rules and layout guidelines; review PCB stackups, routing rules, and impedance targets with EE and layout engineers
  • Perform 2D/3D electromagnetic simulation (HFSS, SIwave, or equivalent) for PCB structures, connectors, and cable harnesses
  • Conduct lab measurements for validation and simulation correlation using VNA, high-bandwidth oscilloscope, spectrum analyzer, and TDR
  • Debug SI/PI failures on prototypes and production boards; drive root cause to closure
  • Collaborate with EMC, harness, thermal, and test engineering teams to integrate SI/PI throughout the product development cycle
  • Develop scripting and automation to accelerate simulation workflows, data analysis, and instrument control

What You’ll Bring

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent industry experience
  • 3+ years of hands-on SI/PI experience on production PCBs with demonstrated ownership from simulation through hardware validation
  • Proficiency in 2D/3D EM simulation tools (Ansys AEDT/HFSS/SIwave, Cadence Sigrity, or equivalent)
  • Hands-on experience with lab instruments: VNA, high-bandwidth oscilloscope, spectrum analyzer, TDR
  • Working knowledge of high-speed interfaces: Ethernet, PCIe, DDR, LVDS, SerDes
  • Familiarity with PCB design tools (Cadence Allegro or Altium) and ability to review layout for SI/PI compliance
  • Scripting proficiency in Python, MATLAB, or equivalent for automation and data analysis
  • Collaborative mindset with the ability to communicate SI/PI constraints clearly to other disciplines

Bonus skillset

  • Power integrity depth: PDN impedance analysis, decoupling strategy, on-die/package modeling, switching regulator noise characterization
  • Cutting-edge memory interfaces: HBM3/4, GDDR7, LPDDR6
  • High-speed cable and connector characterization (S-parameter de-embedding, fixture compensation)
  • Designing for high-noise environments (power electronics, motor drives, HV battery systems)
  • EMC fundamentals: conducted/radiated emissions analysis and root-cause debug
