Job Description

    • Temporary hourly-intermittent student assistant position available in The Signal, English department.


    • Start Date
    • Position available on or after June 15, 2026, and ending on or before A ugust 31, 2027. Possibility of reappointment based on budget, department needs, and job performance.

    • Duties
    • Duties include but are not limited to:
      • Produce photos, videos, and graphics to support the editorial mission of the Signal.
      • Contribute a minimum of 5 original stories to the Signal per semester (3 photo essays, 2 videos).
      • Provide ongoing instruction to editors and reporters.
      • Conduct instructional workshops as needed for reporters.
      • Create infographics as needed.
      • Contribute to story budget production and updates.
      • Perform other relevant duties as assigned.
      • Attend weekly staff meetings.
      • Other duties as assigned.
    • Qualifications

    • Preferred Qualifications:
      • Demonstrates at least one semester of work at the Signal or comparable experience.
      • Demonstrates a basic understanding of AP Style.
      • Demonstrates a passion for news.
      • Demonstrates knowledge of and experience with Adobe Creative Suite (PhotoShop, AfterEffects and Premiere).
      • Demonstrates the ability to post images and videos to WordPress CMS and YouTube.
      • Demonstrates a desire to work with a team.

      Required Qualifications:
      • Undergraduate students must be registered/enrolled in a minimum of six (6) Fall/Spring units.
      • Post-baccalaureate students in a graduate program must be registered in a minimum of four (4) Fall/Spring units.
    • Salary Range

    • $16.90 - $18.00 per hour. Salary will depend on the qualifications of the successful finalist(s).
