Performs entry level work in the fabrication and repair of traffic signs and related work for the Support Services Division in a regional sign shop. Work includes maintaining inventory and records of signs and materials and using specialized tools and equipment related to sign manufacturing. Employees at this level perform assignments following specific instructions and standard practices and are subject to frequent review by the immediate supervisor.

Essential Duties:

· Cuts stencils.
· Draws signs utilizing computer graphics software according to specifications and the sign manual.
· Moves equipment, tools, materials, and products.
· Makes sign blanks.
· Operates letter cutting machine.
· Performs and maintains inventory of signs.
· Tests materials to ensure compliance with minimum standards.
· Reviews sign designs to ensure compliance with the Manual Uniform Traffic Control Devices standards and specifications and approval of the Traffic Safety Division.
· Issues signs to maintenance sections and district offices.
· Operates a forklift to move signs and related materials.
· Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education: High School Grad or Equivalent in general education.

Experience: No Experience required.(Experience can be satisfied by full time or prorated part time equivalent).

Licenses and Certifications: Valid driver’s license. This position requires driving a state vehicle.

Competencies:

· Standard Highway Sign Designs for Texas

· Using applicable hand and power tools, equipment, and mechanical devices of the trade
· Maintaining a safe and effective working relationship with others

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

• Subject to noise
• Subject to hazards-moving vehicles/mechanical parts, high places/heat, or chemicals
• Required to wear protective gear-respirator, hard hat, or other device
• Medium work: Lift up to 50 lbs at a time and frequently lift or carry objects up to 25 lbs
• Standing-prolonged periods of time
• Talking-expressing or exchanging ideas by spoken words
• Hearing-perceive sound at normal speaking levels;receive information by oral communication
• Repetitive Motion-substantial movements of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers
• Close Visual Acuity-using measurement devices; and/or assembly or fabrication parts
• Visual Acuity-operate machines, such as drill presses, power saws, and mills
