Sign Language Interpreter/Tutor - CertifiedAs a related service provider, facilitates communication between users and non users of sign language in the educational environment. This environment includes the classroom, field trips, assemblies, and any other sites that are used by the school system for educational purposes. Develops and promotes good community relations among various community and school clientele. Minimum Experience: A minimum of one (1) to three (3) years of sign language interpreting/transliterating preferred Essential Physical Requirements: • Frequent standing, sitting, repetitive hand and arm movements • Occasional bending, squatting, kneeling, stooping
--- Maintain appropriate records related to services provided.
--- Serve as a liaison between DHH students using sign language and other DHH students, peers, parents, and all school personnel to promote positive rapport among the DHH department, various community and school clientele.
--- Assist in development and delivery of deaf awareness orientation in schools related to sign language.
--- Respect confidentiality and adhere to students’ Individual Education Plan (IEP),adjusting learning activities accordingly.
--- Perform other related duties as assigned or requested.
--- Provide sound-based environmental information to DHH students using sign language. Interpret/Transliterate from spoken English to sign language and from sign language (with or without voice) to spoken English in the educational environment in order to provide access to auditory environmental information.
--- Collaborate with DHH and classroom teachers in order to provide optimum educational and general services to DHH students using sign language.
--- Procure sufficient knowledge for successful sign language interpreting/transliterating.
--- May provide tutoring services for DHH students using sign language under the direction of a certified teacher in order to assist with content clarification and process to optimize the educational experience.
--- Participate in appropriate staffing and professional development activities.
