Job Description

The Sign Fabricator is responsible for the design, production, installation, maintenance and repair of traffic control, street name, and informational signs throughout the Consolidated Government roadways. This position ensures that all signage complies with local, state, and federal regulations including the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD). This position works under the guidance of the Sign Supervisor, also works with the Manager, and other operations.

  • Utilizes digital design software and printing equipment to create traffic and street name signs. Ensure all fabricated signs meet MUTCD, ADA, and city standards.
  • Operates production machinery, applies color sheeting, trims excess including: laminators, vinyl cutters, heat presses, and shears
  • Cleans and maintains production equipment. Maintains a clean and safe work environment, adhering to all safety procedures. Maintains accurate inventory of sign materials, hardware, and equipment.
  • Directs technicians on installing and maintenance of traffic signs, street signs, and wayfinding signage throughout the city. Assist in identifying, sign fabrication, equipment needs and budget development.
  • Assists with fabricating special signs by welding, cutting, or other metalwork as needed for custom sign supports and/or frames.
  • Assist with barricades, traffic cones, and other traffic control devices for city projects or emergencies.
  • Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.

Qualifications

Education: High School diploma or GED.

Experience: Two (2) years’ experience as a Signs & Marking Technician or related field, or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform this job.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Proficient with the use and care of common mechanical equipment and tools.
  • Ability to communicate, both oral and written.
  • Ability to work independently as well as cooperatively with others.
  • Ability to learn, comprehend, and apply all Consolidated Government or departmental policies, practices, and procedures necessary to function effectively in the position.
  • Knowledge of the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD).
  • Knowledge of Georgia DOT sign policies and standards.

Licensing: Must possess a valid state operator/driver’s license for the type of vehicle operated with a good driving history.

Certifications:

  • Possess or have the ability to obtain the IMSA Work Zone Safety Certification within 12 months of hire.
  • Possess or have the ability to obtain the IMSA Signing and Marking Level I & 2 within 12 months of hire.
