Job Description
Drives tractor-trailer combination, applying knowledge of commercial driving regulations, to safely and efficiently transport finished good, products and materials on Paradise Island, Cable Beach, Potter’s Cay and other locations throughout the island of New Providence.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Maneuvers truck into loading or unloading position, following signals from loading crew as needed.
- Maintains driver log according to Company’s regulations.
- Must adhere to all regulations of the Port.
- Follow all Sysco Bahamas’ operational procedures and standards.
- Adhere to all safety requirements particular to the equipment, including Road Traffic Regulations.
- Inspects truck before and after trips and submits report indicating truck condition.
- Reads bill of lading to determine assignment.
- Check all load-related documentation to ensure that it is complete and accurate.
- Inventory and inspect goods to be moved to determine quantities and conditions.
- Ensures pallets are secured on trailer and truck during transit and reposition items that may have shifted in route.
- Check refrigeration systems for frozen/chilled foods.
- Unload truck/trailer, or help others with loading and unloading, operating any special loading-related equipment on vehicles and using other equipment as necessary.
- Obtains customer's signature or collects payment for services when required.
- Receives instructions from Dispatcher and/or Counter Personnel
- Report vehicle defects, accidents, traffic violations, or damage to the vehicles immediately to the Supervisor.
- Maintain truck and associated equipment clean and in good working order
- Must continuously communicate and follow all radio or other communication protocols set by the company.
- Performs any other duties as assigned by Management.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Required
- Successfully pass a Basic Yard Maneuvers & Road Test
- Clean criminal history
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:
- Frequent holding and grasping with the hands when loading and unloading equipment
- Frequent use of foot/feet to operate foot pedal/s on equipment and trucks
- Frequent lifting up to 50 lbs.; occasional lifting up to 90 lbs.
- Exposure to bright lights, extreme temperatures, loud noise, dust, gas and/or fumes
- Ability to work during hours of 12am to 9am with minimal supervision

- Must have a driving record in Good Standing. To be in Good Standing Driver must present a current Police Traffic printout report with none of the violations below:
- Any major violations (DWI, manslaughter, reckless driving, drugs, leaving the scene) within the last three years.
- Two or more other traffic violations and one at fault accident in the last three years.
- Three or more other traffic violations in the last three years.
- Two or more at fault accidents in the last three years with no traffic violations.
- Must be willing to work overtime.
CORPORATE COMPLIANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Understands and adheres to Bahamas Food Services compliance standards as they appear in the Corporate Compliance Policy, Code of Conduct and Conflict of Interest Policy.
- Keeps abreast of all Company regulations, and policies as they presently exist and as they change or are modified.
