Job Summary: The Shuttle Bus Driver is responsible for the safe, professional, and timely transportation of casino guests and team members between designated pickup locations including parking areas, partner hotels, and satellite points and Gilley’s. Operating as both a skilled driver and a frontline brand ambassador, this individual is frequently the first point of contact guests experience, and as such plays a critical role in establishing a welcoming, service-oriented impression of the facility from the moment of arrival.
The Shuttle Bus Driver is expected to uphold the highest standards of vehicle operation, customer service, and regulatory compliance at all times. All duties must be performed within the full regulatory framework established by the Kansas Racing and Gaming Commission (KRGC), including adherence to licensing requirements, conduct standards, and applicable Kansas statutes governing parimutuel racing facility employees. This position demands reliability, professionalism, and a genuine commitment to guest safety and satisfaction.
Essential Job Functions
- Safely operate a passenger shuttle bus or van along assigned routes on a scheduled or on call basis, maintaining compliance with all applicable traffic and vehicle operation regulations.
- Transport guests and employees between the facility, designated parking lots, partner hotels, and approved satellite pickup/drop-off points according to established schedules.
- Perform thorough pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections per DOT/FMCSA and company standards; document all findings accurately on required inspection logs and submit them to the Manager or Director.
- Adhere strictly to all Kansas state traffic laws, facility driving rules, and posted speed limits on property at all times.
- Assist guests with boarding and alighting the vehicle, including guests with mobility challenges or disabilities; provide fully ADA-compliant service in accordance with applicable federal and state requirements.
- Maintain a clean, professional vehicle interior and exterior at all times; promptly report any maintenance needs, damage, or equipment deficiencies to the Manager or Director.
- Monitor passenger capacity and ensure strict compliance with vehicle load limits and seating regulations at all times.
- Communicate effectively with dispatch, the Manager or Director, and facility operations staff via two-way radio or company-issued mobile device throughout each shift.
- Respond promptly and courteously to guest questions, comments, and requests for assistance, providing accurate directions and facility information as needed.
- Accurately document all trip logs, mileage, incident reports, and fuel usage in accordance with company recordkeeping requirements.
- Respond to emergency situations calmly and professionally; follow established facility emergency procedures and coordinate immediately with security and management personnel as appropriate.
- Report any observed suspicious activity, safety hazards, or guest conduct issues to facility security or management immediately and without delay.
- Maintain consistent punctuality and reliability across all assigned shifts; notify Manager or Director in advance of any anticipated absence or tardiness per company attendance policy.

- Valid Kansas Class C Driver's License (minimum)
- CDL with P endorsement is preferred even for smaller fleet vehicles. License class will be confirmed based on assigned fleet configuration.
Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) and Drug & Alcohol Policy
- Must maintain a clean Motor Vehicle Record (MVR); MVR abstracts will be reviewed pre-hire and periodically throughout employment per company policy.
- Comply with applicable DOT hours-of-service regulations; maintain accurate driver logs if required based on vehicle class and route structure.
- Zero tolerance for alcohol or drug impairment on duty; employees are subject to pre-employment, random, post-accident, and reasonable-suspicion drug and alcohol testing per DOT regulations and company policy.
- Complete all required defensive driving training and facility-specific safety orientation prior to solo operation of any vehicle.
- Maintain working familiarity with basic first aid procedures and facility emergency evacuation plans; First Aid/CPR certification strongly encouraged.
- No use of personal mobile devices while the vehicle is in motion under any circumstances; hands-free communication via company radio or device only.
- Report all accidents, incidents, and near-misses immediately per company incident reporting protocol and applicable KRGC reporting obligations.
Experience and Qualifications
(Candidates must meet all of the following minimum qualifications to be considered for this position)
- High school diploma or GED equivalent preferred; equivalent combination of education and relevant experience may be considered.
- Minimum age of 21 years at time of hire.
- Valid Kansas driver's license; CDL with Passenger (P) endorsement preferred; Class C license considered based on assigned fleet vehicle capacity (see Section 4).
- Clean MVR: no DUI/DWI convictions within the past 5 years; no more than 2 moving violations within the past 3 years.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a KRGC Occupation License, including successful completion of background investigation and fingerprinting.
- Prior experience in passenger transportation, shuttle operations, hospitality transport, paratransit, or a related customer service role preferred.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; demonstrated ability to interact positively and professionally with the public.
- Basic proficiency in written and spoken English sufficient for accurate documentation, radio communication, and guest interaction.
- Previous transportation experience in a gaming, hospitality, hotel, or entertainment environment (e.g., casino shuttle, resort transport, airport ground transportation).
- Valid First Aid and/or CPR certification from an accredited provider (e.g., American Red Cross, American Heart Association).
- Documented experience operating ADA-accessible vehicles, including wheelchair lift-equipped vans or buses.
- Bilingual communication skills are a plus and may be considered an asset in serving diverse guest populations.
