POSITION PURPOSE
Provides hospitality to hospital patients, guests, visitors, and employees by being friendly, helpful, courteous to persons within the hospital complex or those calling on the telephone who are in need of information and/or directions. Under direct supervision, drives hospital shuttle bus and records usage. Makes initial contact with hospital visitors. Helps patients/visitors on/off shuttle bus, and provides needed information on hospital facilities complex.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Drives shuttle van to transport visitors from parking lot to main Health Center entrances at approximately 10 minute intervals.
2. Records number of riders for subsequent analysis.
3. Assists visitors in entering and leaving van and assists with wheelchairs.
4. Answers visitors' requests for hospital information and directions.
5. Assists with security of parking lot by alerting Security personnel to unusual, suspicious circumstances.
6. Drives van and or Shuttle Bus to required location for routine maintenance, refuels van as necessary, reports necessary maintenance to Automotive Services.
7. Assists in ensuring a favorable environment for riders by performing minor housekeeping functions inside van.
8. Provides hospitality to all persons by being friendly, helpful and courteous.
9. Maintains good rapport and cooperative relationships. Approaches conflict in a constructive manner. Helps to identify problems, offer solutions, and participate in their resolution.
10. Maintains the confidentiality of information acquired pertaining to patient, physicians, employees, and visitors to St. Joseph Mercy Hospital. Discusses patient and hospital information only among appropriate personnel in appropriately private places
11. Behaves in accordance with the Mission, Vision and Values of Mission Health.
12. Assumes responsibility for performance of job duties in the safest possible manner, to assure personal safety and that of coworkers, and to report all preventable hazards and unsafe practices immediately to management.
OTHER FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Performs other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND CERTIFICATION/LICENSURE
Education: Requires basic skills in reading, writing and arithmetic.
Experience: Less than one month on the job training or previous experience.
Certification/Licensure: Valid Michigan* driver's license with satisfactory driving record.
* If Michigan driver's license is not available at the time of hire, it must be obtained and presented within 14 days.
REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES
1. Interpersonal skills required to effectively interact with visitors.
2. No restrictions in regard to lifting, in order to help visitors into and/or out of the shuttle bus.
3. Ability to drive public transportation vehicle.
4. Dexterity to operate the wheelchair lift.
5. Maintains a satisfactory driving technique.
