The Shutter Installer Trainee is a position designed to provide hands-on training and experience in the installation of hurricane shutters and related protection systems. The trainee will work closely with experienced installers to learn the proper techniques and safety practices required to effectively install various types of shutters.

Key Responsibilities & Duties:

  • Assist with Installations: Work under the guidance of experienced installers to assist in the installation of hurricane shutters, including accordion shutters, roll-down shutters, and panel systems.
  • Learning and Development: Actively participate in training sessions and on-the-job learning opportunities to understand the full range of shutter installation processes.
  • Material Handling: Help load and unload shutters and related materials at the job site. Ensure that all tools and materials are prepared for installation.
  • Site Preparation: Assist in the preparation of installation sites, including measuring and marking areas for installation, setting up ladders, and organizing tools.
  • Tool Operation: Learn to safely operate hand and power tools used in the installation process, under supervision.
  • Safety Compliance: Follow all safety protocols to protect yourself, your team, and the property being worked on. Wear required safety equipment such as helmets, gloves, and goggles.
  • Customer Service: Support the lead installer in communicating with customers, ensuring a professional and courteous interaction.
  • Site Cleanup: Assist in cleaning up the job site after installation, ensuring all debris is removed and the area is left in a tidy condition.

Required Skills/ Abilities:

  • Mechanically minded, with the ability to stand back and assess the situation before commencing work.
  • Strong fault-finding skills and rectification of mechanical issues and fundamental electrical problems, minimizing the need to go back on jobs.
  • Excellent Customer Service skills as you will be engaging with our client and other vendors when necessary.
  • Ability to work in a hot, humid environment.
  • Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Able to analyze and solve problems as they arise.
  • A self-starter and ability to work unsupervised as well as within a team.
  • Abide by the conditions of employment to ensure the integrity of the company’s operation.
  • Abide by all government and company regulations and standards of performance.

Education/Experience/Licenses/Certifications

  • High school diploma, GED or equivalent.
  • Valid Clean Driver's License
  • Carpentry experience is necessary.
  • 1-2 years in Hurricane Protection Shutter Installation a plus
