This is a temporary position for 4-6 months with the potential to move to permanent.
Reporting to the Live Receiving Supervisor or Lead Hand where appropriate, the Shunt Driver is responsible for the safe and timely transportation of live poultry within the compounds of the Mitchell Facility. The Shunter plays a critical, non-highway role that ensures operations run smoothly by efficiently moving trailers within the yard and loading docks.
Days / hours:
Monday – Thursday 4:30am – 3:00pm
Key Accountabilities:
• Safe and efficient movement of trailers in and out of dock doors, within and around the Mitchell facility.
• Complete pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections of the shunt truck, ensuring brakes, lights, and hydraulics etc. are fully operational.
• Monitor truck condition and communicate to manager with repair(s) required.
• Responsible for maintaining the highest standards of animal welfare during loading, transport, and unloading.
• Maintain clean and tidy workplace and wash trailers as needed.
• Other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
• 1-3 years of verifiable driving / shunting experience.
• Valid drivers license with a clean driver’s abstract.
• Experience with livestock handling and a strong understanding for humane transportation practices are preferred.
• Ability to work in varying weather conditions and manage physically demanding daily tasks.
• Excellent communication skills (both verbal and written) and interpersonal skills;
