Shop Services Heavy

Job Duties

  • Must be able to function as a leader, direct and give job assignments, enforce company policies, and help train other department employees.
  • Organize and assign work.
  • Assist with the responsibilities of shop services personnel as required.
  • Use lift trucks to transport scrap steel and metal shavings from plants to outside storage bins.
  • Move hoppers to and from lift trucks by hand at many machine locations.
  • Sort company pallets and skids for reuse or scrap.
  • Drive Company vans.
  • Clean shop restrooms.
  • Commercial Drivers License helpful to back up to the trash hauler.
  • Work at heights and safely operate a Geni Boom Lift, scissor lift and Wave.
  • Safely operate an automatic riding sweeper and riding scrubbers to clean plant aisles and floors. 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Must be able to safely operate lift truck as well as a Geni Boom lifts.
  • Must be comfortable working at heights.
  • HS Diploma or equivalent.
  • Per 8 hr. shift, (stand 3 hrs., walk 3 hrs., sit 2 hrs.), frequently (bend/stoop/twist, reach above shoulder level, push/pull), occasionally (reach below knee level, squat/kneel/crawl, climb stairs, work with arm outstretched, work above chest level). Frequent lifting and carrying (frequently from 0 to 50 lbs.). Occasionally team lift or use a hoist or lift truck to lift items from 51 to 100 lbs. Must be able to hear, see, have good binocular vision, use feet to operate foot pedals, balance, do simple and firm grasping with both hands. Must be able to work in noisy environments that include exposure to outdoor/indoor temperatures, weld flash, haz-mat conditions, fumes, vibrations, dust, shavings, grease, solvents, and oil. Be able to work at heights of 30 to 50 feet. Must be able to drive company vehicles. Must be able to safely operate Geni Boom lift, scissor lift, and Wave. Safely operate an automatic riding sweeper and riding scrubber to clean plant aisles and floors. Must be able to safely operate lift trucks and safely work in areas of lift truck traffic. Required to have visual acuity to perform an activity such as: operating motor vehicles and/or heavy equipment; determining the accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of the work assigned such as custodial, food services, general labor, etc.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Read, basic math skills, know differences in scrap metals, remember, and reason. Must be able to multi-task. Be able to perform the same basic tasks every day and follow well established procedures. Work according to daily standard instructions. Ability to obtain a Commercial Driver's License is helpful to back up the Shop Services Truck Driver position.
  • Valid driver’s license and good driving record.
  • CDL helpful.
  • Prior experience beneficial.
