Position Summary:

The Shop Manager is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the service shop, ensuring the efficient and high-quality repair, maintenance, and overhaul of rotating equipment. This role requires strong leadership to manage a team of technicians, maintain high safety and quality standards, and ensure customer satisfaction. The Shop Manager will drive operational excellence, manage resources effectively, and uphold the company’s commitment to superior service.

Key Responsibilities:

• Leadership & Team Management:
• Lead, mentor, and develop a team of mechanics, machinists, welders and support staff.
• Foster a culture of accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
• Conduct performance evaluations and provide coaching to enhance team skills.
• Operational Oversight:
• Supervise daily shop activities, ensuring jobs are completed on time and to specifications.
• Ensure compliance with company policies, safety regulations, and industry standards.
• Implement cost control measures to improve operational efficiency.
• Technical Expertise & Quality Assurance:
• Oversee the repair and servicing of rotating equipment such as pumps, compressors, turbines, and gearboxes.
• Conduct final inspections to ensure adherence to quality and performance standards.
• Troubleshoot complex technical issues and provide guidance to the team.
• Customer Relations & Service Excellence:
• Work closely with customers and internal project management teams to understand job requirements and expectations.
• Provide technical recommendations and ensure clear communication on job status.
• Maintain a high level of customer satisfaction through quality service and prompt issue resolution.
• Health, Safety & Compliance:
• Enforce safety procedures and ensure all employees adhere to OSHA and company safety standards.
• Lead safety meetings and training sessions to promote a zero-incident workplace.
• Maintain compliance with environmental and regulatory requirements.

Qualifications & Experience:

• 5+ years of experience in a service-oriented rotating equipment environment, with at least 3 years in a supervisory or managerial role.
• Strong technical knowledge of rotating equipment, including diagnostics, repairs, and maintenance.
• Proven leadership and team-building skills with the ability to manage personnel effectively.
• Familiarity with industry regulations, safety standards, and quality control processes.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to make sound operational decisions.
• Strong communication and customer service skills.
• Proficiency in shop management software and Microsoft Office Suite.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Management, or a related field.
• Experience with predictive maintenance technologies and reliability practices.
• Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing and continuous improvement methodologies.

Work Environment & Physical Requirements:

• Work is primarily performed in a shop environment with exposure to loud noises, heavy machinery, and potential safety hazards.
• Requires standing, walking, lifting up to 50 lbs, and occasional travel to customer sites.
• Must be available for occasional after-hours work or emergency job assignments.
