Direct Medics is delighted to be recruiting for an exciting Senior House Officer (SHO) Oncology opportunity at Letterkenny University Hospital (LUH), one of the busiest acute hospitals in Ireland and the principal hospital serving County Donegal and the wider North West region.

This post offers a unique pathway for doctors seeking both immediate locum work and longer-term career stability. The successful candidate can commence on a short-term locum basis, with the opportunity to transition onto the hospital payroll for a 12-month fixed-term contract from January 2027 to January 2028.

This is an excellent opportunity to gain valuable experience within a supportive oncology service while securing a long-term position in a highly desirable location.

The Role

As an SHO within the Oncology team, you will:

• Work alongside experienced Consultants, Registrars and multidisciplinary colleagues
• Gain exposure to inpatient and outpatient oncology care
• Develop your knowledge of cancer management and systemic anti-cancer therapies
• Participate in ward rounds, patient assessments and treatment planning
• Benefit from excellent clinical learning opportunities within a busy hospital environment

The Oncology service at LUH provides specialist cancer care through its dedicated Oncology and Haematology services, delivering treatment and support to patients across the North West region.

Requirements

• Eligibility to work in Ireland
• Active IMC registration (or eligibility)
• Previous hospital experience at SHO level
• Oncology or General Medicine experience desirable
• Strong communication and teamwork skills

Essential Requirements

• Valid IMC Registration
• Right to Work in the Republic of Ireland
• Minimum 6 months of medical experience in this role or a similar role within the UK or Ireland
