Simon & Schuster is seeking a Shipping Supervisor to oversee daily outbound shipping operations in a high-volume distribution facility. Reporting to the Shipping Manager, this hands-on leader will guide Shipping Coordinators and hourly associates, keep work moving across the shift, and help ensure customer orders ship safely, accurately, and on time.

The ideal candidate communicates clearly, develops employees, solves problems as they arise, and stays focused on both team performance and customer service.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise, coach, and train Shipping Coordinators and hourly associates; provide clear direction and feedback throughout the shift.
  • Assign work, monitor staffing and workflow, and adjust priorities to meet daily shipping deadlines and productivity goals.
  • Oversee order preparation, dock activities, carrier pickups, shipment tracking, and shipping documentation.
  • Monitor shipping accuracy and service performance, and resolve delays or discrepancies promptly.
  • Coordinate with Operations, Transportation, Inventory, and Customer Service to address issues affecting outbound orders.
  • Identify opportunities to improve safety, quality, and productivity, and support the implementation of process improvements.
  • Reinforce safe work practices, company policies, and standard operating procedures.
  • Keep the Shipping Manager informed of performance, staffing needs, and operational concerns.

Qualifications

  • Previous supervisory or team lead experience in shipping, warehousing, logistics, or distribution.
  • Experience working in a fast-paced, high-volume operation.
  • Working knowledge of shipping processes, dock operations, freight carriers, and warehouse management systems.
  • Ability to train and motivate employees while holding the team accountable for results.
  • Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred; equivalent relevant experience will be considered.

The hiring salary range for this position applies to New York City, California, Colorado, Washington state, and most other geographies.
