Job Description

SHIPPING SPECIALIST

1ST SHIFT 8AM-4PM

$19-22/HOUR

Responsible for the processing and coordination of outgoing shipments.

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Research, prepare, process, and ship all required daily shipments to include obtaining rate quotes to ensure best rate; tracking and tracing shipments; scheduling daily pickups, scheduling return shipments; rerouting shipments; scheduling customer routing; etc.
  • Provide and issue proof of delivery and call tags as necessary.
  • Prepare commercial invoices and international paperwork as required.
  • Package and weigh daily packets for sales representatives and other customers as requested.
  • Prepare end of the day reports.
  • File claims for lost packages, damaged freight, etc. with appropriate carrier.
  • Responsible for ensuring ticket completion and submission to accounting to include verifying ship quantity matches material yields, etc.
  • Responsible for various administrative duties to include but not limited to filing BOL’s, emailing and filling out spreadsheets, data entry for customer routing, receiving drivers and signing the drivers out, etc.
  • Attend daily scheduling meeting to stay informed and communicate daily and upcoming shipping priorities.
  • Prepare material/product to be staged, shipped, and or inventoried, as required.
  • Responsible for product identification to include proper tagging and labeling of material and components, as required.
  • Order office supplies.
  • Responsible for mail pick up as well as mail and outsource deliveries.
  • Process and complete of orders.
  • Continually identify, develop, and implement improvements in work processes.
  • Consistently and effectively serve as a positive role model by living Sheridan’s core values.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Basic Qualifications

  • Ability to learn and use company-specific computer applications and software required.
  • Ability to attain and maintain a Forklift Certification required.
  • Knowledge of arithmetic and structure and content of the English language to include the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition required.
  • Ability to consistently and effectively work independently with little or no direction and follow up to complete assignments required.
  • Ability to demonstrate practical and technical knowledge of the job including an understanding of work instructions, processes, equipment, and materials to perform the job required.
  • Ability to consistently and effectively complete work and required paperwork thoroughly, accurately, and neatly following established processes and procedures required.
  • Ability to consistently and effectively demonstrate initiative and creativity; teamwork and cooperation; and adhere to and comply with all company and environmental, health, and safety policies, procedures, and work rules required.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and work overtime and other shifts required.
  • Prompt and reliable attendance required.

Desired Qualifications

  • Prior logistics experience preferred.

Travel Requirements

Minimal travel for mail pick up, deliveries, etc.

Working Conditions

Work is performed in a manufacturing environment with regular exposure to dust, dirt, noise, and physical hazards of machinery, plus some exposure to fumes, oils, lubricants, and chemicals. Position requires ability to move with ease in the production area; remain in stationary position for prolonged periods of time on concrete/hard surface; use hands and fingers constantly for handling, gripping, and manipulating product; constantly position oneself to complete work including bending, twisting, rotating, and reaching; and move product weighing up to 100 pounds.
