Qualifications
Wausau Equipment Company in Fond du Lac, WI is taking applications for an experienced Material Handler.
The Material Handler will perform a combination of tasks including load, unload, and moving material and parts in and around the manufacturing facility. Responsibilities include the accuracy of inventory, and making transactions into various inventory control programs.
- Performs shipping and receiving duties, such as receive all materials and check for quality and quantity as called for by purchase orders and corresponding packing lists; distribute materials to proper locations; coordinate and organize paperwork such as shipping lists, packing lists, and purchase orders.
- Support the shipment of goods produced and the received goods and supplies to be used in or to aid in the production/storage of goods destined for sale to our customer base.
- Report defective materials or questionable conditions to the Production Supervisor.
- Keep an adequate supply of shipping materials on hand at all times.
- Reads production schedules, customer orders, work orders, shipping orders and/or requisitions to identify items to be moved, gathered or distributed.
- Fulfills work orders, requests for materials or other stock items and distributes items to production work areas timely.
- Verify the accuracy of inventory counts through a physical count and an analysis of transactions.
- Open containers to count items and/or weigh materials to determine quantity on hand. Weigh and label product displaying remaining product on hand.
- Enter inventory/parts information using a bar code scanning system, and computer terminal.
- Ensure materials are in proper locations.
- Maintain the equipment and work area in a clean and orderly condition and follow prescribed safety regulations.
- Weigh and count items for distribution within plant to ensure conformance to Company standards.
- Prepare heavy equipment as well as delicate materials for foreign and domestic shipments so as to conform with shipping specifications and requirements.
- Organize warehouse and work area for orderliness at all times.
- Safe use of material handling equipment.
- Perform all other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSA’s):
- Knowledge and understanding of inventory management and distribution software.
- Knowledge of warehouse, shipping and receiving operations.
- Must be able to read and interpret various shipping documents.
- Requires ability to communicate effectively both written and orally.
- Must be capable of estimating weight, and use that information to calculate the cost of shipping. Requires ability to perform basic math.
- Must have a valid driver’s license and good driving record.
- Basic computer skills and experience using MS Office, ERP (JDE), and Email.
- Requires familiarity with proper packaging methods and various forms used and required by the major freight carriers. Must have ability to fill out bills of lading.
- Must be familiar with the most common material handling equipment and be able to become a licensed forklift truck operator.
- Must be physically capable of lifting, pushing or pulling up to 35 pounds alone or greater with assistance.
- Must have the ability to implement the programs, goals, objectives, policies, procedures, etc., of the Shipping and Receiving Department.
- Requires use of appropriate personal protective equipment including but not limited to: safety glasses, hearing protection and safety shoes.
- Requires regular and prompt attendance.
- Able to work overtime and/or including weekends as production schedule dictates.
Education and Experience:
- Minimum of three years of previous material handling and/or shipping and receiving experience in a production environment.
- Experience working with a cycle counting program in a manufacturing work environment.
- A minimum of one year experience operating a forklift in a manufacturing environment.

Work performed in a non-climate controlled heavy equipment manufacturing production environment, with frequent standing, twisting, bending, stooping, and climbing in and around metal fabricated parts. Frequent lifting, pushing or pulling of 35 pounds. Requires sufficient manual dexterity and visual acuity to identify required parts and operate production equipment (i.e. forklift, hand truck, etc.).
