The Shipping Lead is responsible for leading the daily shipping operations while promoting a safe, efficient, and customer-focused work environment. This position coordinates the loading of trucks and railcars, ensures product quality and shipping accuracy, supports Shipping Supervisors, and provides leadership to shipping team members. The Shipping Lead is expected to model Huber’s safety culture while meeting production and customer service goals

Principal Duties & Responsibilities

  • Lead daily activities of shipping personnel during assigned shift.
  • Assign work and prioritize truck and railcar loading schedules.
  • Ensure all customer orders are loaded accurately and on time.
  • Verify product, quantities, labeling, and shipping documentation before release.
  • Coordinate loading of:
    • Dry van trailers
    • Centerbeam railcars
    • Specialty loads
  • Monitor trailer and railcar condition before loading.
  • Ensure loads are secured according to Huber and AAR requirements.
  • Communicate with Production, Logistics, Customer Service, and Warehouse regarding shipping priorities.
  • Assist with Oracle shipping transactions and inventory accuracy.
  • Troubleshoot shipping issues and escalate concerns when necessary.
  • Support cycle counts and inventory reconciliation.
  • Ensure shipping metrics such as turn time, load accuracy, and on-time shipments are achieved.
  • Train and mentor new shipping employees.
  • Conduct shift start-up meetings and communicate daily priorities.
  • Promote teamwork and accountability.

Specialized/Technical Knowledge or Required Skills

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • 3–5 years of manufacturing or shipping experience.
  • Previous leadership or team lead experience preferred.
  • Forklift certification or ability to obtain certification.
  • Trackmobile experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of shipping and warehouse operations.
  • Experience loading trucks and railcars.
  • Forklift experience.
  • Understanding of centerbeam railcar loading and load securement.
  • Basic Oracle or ERP experience preferred.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple shipments.
  • Leadership and coaching skills.
  • Basic Microsoft Office knowledge.
  • Ability to read shipping paperwork, bills of lading, and load plans.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
  • Lift up to 50 pounds occasionally.
  • Work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Climb ladders and railcar platforms as needed.
  • Wear required PPE at all times.
