Job Description

Harvard Bioscience is looking for a Shipping Clerk. The qualified candidate will Verify and keep accurate records on incoming and outgoing shipments. Will prepare items for shipment by performing the shipping duties. Must have working knowledge of international shipping including export compliance. Commercial invoicing, AES/EEI filing, Fedex/UPS/ DHL shipping processes.

Essential Job Functions

  • Compares identifying information and counts, weighs, or measures items of incoming and outgoing shipments to verify information against bills of lading, invoices, orders, or other records.
  • Determines method of shipment.
  • Affixes shipping labels on packed cartons
  • Assembles wooden or cardboard containers or selects preassembled containers
  • Inserts items into containers.
  • Posts weights and shipping charges
  • Unpacks and examines incoming shipments, rejects damaged items, records shortages
  • Routes items to departments
  • Examines outgoing shipments to ensure shipments meet specifications.
  • Maintains inventory of shipping materials and supplies.
  • Operates tier lift truck or uses hand truck to move, convey, or hoist shipments from shipping and receiving platform to storage or work area.
  • Other shipping duties as assigned

Skills and Qualifications

  • Team Player

  • Shipping experience
  • Nice to have International Shipping experience
  • Knowledge of Internet software; Inventory software and Microsoft office suite
  • The employee is frequently required to stand and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to walk; sit; climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must regularly lift and /or move up to 11 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 30 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 55 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision and depth perception.

Education and Experience and/or equivalent

High School Diploma or Associate's degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; and 3 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
