Shipping & Warehouse Manager

Purpose of the Role

The Shipping & Warehouse Manager oversees all inbound and outbound shipments, inventory control, and the usage of raw and recycled materials. This role ensures materials are available to support production efficiency, testing requirements, and quality expectations. You’ll also guide and develop the shipping/warehouse team, identify system gaps, and lead continuous improvements.

Key Accountabilities

Materials & Inventory Management

  • Maintain proper levels of virgin resin, color, additives, and regrind materials to ensure uninterrupted production.
  • Partner closely with Scheduling and Purchasing to improve forecasting, lead times, and system accuracy.
  • Identify unprofitable scenarios and escalate unresolved issues to the Production Manager.
  • Communicate the daily material usage plan and expectations to production teams.
  • Review schedules across all shifts to ensure regrind opportunities are fully utilized.
  • Audit regrind usage and collaborate with Production and Processing to resolve issues.
  • Oversee the material testing program, equipment, and qualification of all incoming recycled materials.

Shipping & Logistics

  • Coordinate all customer shipments for finished goods and manage inbound deliveries of raw materials and supplies.
  • Schedule pickups and deliveries in partnership with the Freight Coordinator.
  • Ensure shipping documents (BOLs, packing slips, invoices) are accurate and completed on time.
  • Monitor carrier performance and address service issues as needed.
  • Lead ongoing improvements to On-Time In-Full (OTIF) performance.

Supporting Plant Efficiency

  • Ensure materials are prepared and aligned with expectations for changeovers.
  • Maintain alternative material options to avoid production interruptions.
  • Streamline grinding activities to support production needs.
  • Optimize warehouse layout and space utilization for both raw materials and finished goods.

Safety Leadership

  • Lead by example by following and reinforcing all safety standards.
  • Actively participate in and champion safety initiatives.
  • Identify and address operational hazards proactively.
  • Conduct Job Hazard Analyses for non-standard work and perform value-added behavior-based safety actions.
  • Ensure compliance with forklift procedures and perform regular safety audits.

Team Leadership & Development

  • Build a culture of ownership and accountability to reduce material and shipping issues.
  • Support each team member with a defined growth and skills-development plan.
  • Conduct quarterly and annual Key Accountability reviews.
  • Maintain appropriate staffing levels for daily operations.

Knowledge, Skills & Experience

  • Preferred: Bachelor’s Degree in Logistics, Supply Chain, Industrial Engineering, or General Management
  • Preferred: 5+ years of Logistics Management experience
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint); JD Edwards ERP experience is a plus
  • Demonstrated ability to build and implement new processes
  • Ability to manage multiple projects independently
  • Strong collaboration skills with cross-functional teams
