The Shipping and Receiving Clerk I is an entry‑level operational role responsible for supporting daily shipping and receiving activities, including handling incoming and outgoing materials, verifying documentation, and maintaining accurate records. The role focuses on learning standard logistics processes, following safety and quality procedures, and supporting warehouse efficiency with attention to detail.


The Shipping and Receiving Clerk I supports basic material movement and documentation tasks within a warehouse, distribution center, or plant environment. The role emphasizes process adherence, teamwork, and accuracy, performing routine tasks under guidance from supervisors or more experienced clerks.
This role does not include people‑management responsibility.
This position typically reports to a Warehouse Supervisor, Logistics Supervisor, or Operations Lead (M1–M2).

Key Responsibilities
Shipping & Receiving Support

Assist with receiving incoming shipments and preparing outgoing orders
Verify shipment contents against packing slips, bills of lading, or purchase orders
Report discrepancies, shortages, or visible damage to supervisors

Material Handling & Movement

Move materials to designated storage or staging areas
Assist with loading and unloading deliveries as required
Safely handle materials using carts, pallet jacks, or other basic equipment

Documentation & Data Entry

Complete basic shipping and receiving documentation accurately
Enter receipt or shipment data into inventory or ERP systems
Maintain organized records and paperwork

Inventory Control Support

Assist with labeling, tagging, and stocking materials
Support cycle counts or physical inventories as directed
Help maintain accurate inventory locations and quantities

Safety & Compliance

Follow all warehouse safety rules and PPE requirements
Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area
Report unsafe conditions or incidents promptly

Quality & Accuracy

Ensure materials are handled carefully to prevent damage
Perform basic checks to confirm correct parts, quantities, and condition
Follow standard operating procedures consistently

Team Collaboration

Work closely with warehouse, production, and logistics teams
Communicate clearly regarding deliveries, priorities, or issues
Support team goals and daily workload requirements

Learning & Skill Development

Learn warehouse processes, systems, and material‑handling practices
Accept training, coaching, and feedback to build proficiency
Demonstrate reliability, punctuality, and a willingness to learn

Qualifications
Education & Experience

High school diploma or GED required
Previous warehouse, shipping, receiving, or material‑handling experience preferred but not required
Typically 0–2 years of experience in logistics, warehouse, or operations environments

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Basic understanding of shipping and receiving processes
Ability to follow instructions and standard procedures
Attention to detail and accuracy
Basic computer or data‑entry skills
Ability to lift, move, and handle materials safely
Dependable, team‑oriented, and safety‑focused
Effective communication and willingness to ask questions
