Job Description


Our Client, a retailer of consumer applicances is looking for a Shipping and Logistics Manager. The incumbent will be responsible for providing strategic oversight and coordination of all import and export logistics. This role ensures timely, compliant, and cost-effective movement of goods while building and maintaining strong relationships with all key stakeholders, including overseas suppliers, freight forwarders, customs agents, and export customers.


Key Responsibilities


  • Import & Export Operations

    • Coordinate international shipments from origin to final destination.

    • Manage all customs documentation and regulatory requirements for import and export.

    • Liaise with clearing agents, freight forwarders, and port authorities.

    • Track and monitor cargo movement, providing timely status updates to stakeholders.

    • Ensure strict compliance with trade regulations, and company policies.

    • Monitor and reconcile landed costs, including freight, duties, taxes, and surcharges.

  • Supplier & Customer Management

    • Act as the key point of contact for international suppliers and export customers on all logistics-related matters.

    • Monitor 3PL (Third-Party Logistics) performance, delivery timelines, and contractual obligations.

    • Collaborate with the Procurement team to review supplier capabilities and logistics feasibility.

    • Manage freight contracts and negotiate for improved terms where possible.

    • Proactively communicate with customers on order status and issue resolution

    • Coordinate logistics support to meet customer-specific requirements and delivery timelines.

  • Documentation & Compliance

    • Maintain accurate records of all shipping documents (e.g., Bills of Lading, invoices, packing lists).

    • Ensure all documentation complies with legal, regulatory, and internal audit requirements.

    • Prepare and report on shipment performance, delays, and compliance metrics.

    • Ensure full compliance with customs and regulatory requirements to prevent penalties, demurrage, or other avoidable costs.

  • Cost & Performance Optimization

    • Identify opportunities to reduce logistics costs and enhance service levels.

    • Monitor and report on key performance indicators (KPIs) for international logistics.

    • Support budgeting and cost forecasting for import and export operations.


Requirements


  • Qualifications & Experience

    • Bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Supply Chain, International Trade, or a related field.

    • Minimum of 5 years of experience in international logistics or freight forwarding at a mid-level management position.

    • Proven ability to lead and manage teams to deliver against tight deadlines

    • Extensive experience with Import/Export regulations and a strong understanding of the East African import/export environment.

    • Hands-on experience in managing a customs-bonded warehouse.

    • Proficiency with ERP and logistics tracking systems.
