T he Shipping Clerk is responsible for performing shipping duties and processing related paperwork for daily shipment, and ensures that the product needed for shipment is packed, prepared, staged and loaded to shippers and trucks in a timely manner.
Responsibilities:
- Prepares finished goods accurately for shipment according to customer requirements.
- Coordinates shipments on approved third party logistic company (i.e. RSAC approved) and common outside carriers.
- Reviews finished goods to ensure that they are tagged and properly prepared for shipping. Prepares shipping documents associated with each truck including bill of lading; prints tags to identify material.
- Verifies that all shipments are accurate and not damaged prior to departure from the facility.
- Stores materials and supplies within the warehouse according to company procedures.
- Manages shipping supplies inventories according to company procedures.
- Manages finished goods inventory per company policies.
- Signs for incoming deliveries as required; loads and unloads delivery trailers/trucks by hand or with material handling equipment as needed.
- Forwards shipping and receiving documentation in a neat and orderly manner.
- Records shipping and receiving details to the appropriate department on a regular and timely basis.
- Fills out production paperwork, follows shop system data collection procedures and follows inspection procedures on a daily basis.
- Maintains work areas in a clean, orderly and safe manner to include returning tools to designated areas.
- Notifies management of product discrepancies or equipment malfunctions, and or personal injuries.
- Regular and predictable attendance is required to perform the duties of a shipping clerk effectively.
- Adheres to established company policies and procedures paying special attention to safety regulations.
- Adheres to Reliance Steel and Aluminum's Code of Conduct as well as customer confidentiality requirements.
- Wears personal protective equipment in accordance with training guidelines.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Working Conditions:
- Working inside and outside of the warehouse; may be exposed to extreme cold and heat; rain and snow conditions, wet and dry
- Moderate to loud noise levels
- Vibration
- Oils, dust, fumes and metallic particles
- Day and night shifts
Physical Requirements:
- Requires physical activity more than 66% of the time (> 5.5 hours per day)
- Stand, walk, sit, handling/fingering, reach outward, reach above shoulder, climb, squat or kneel or bend
- Use hands to handle objects, tools or controls
- Lift, carry, push and/or pull 51 -- 100 lbs. with assistance
- Must wear the proper personal protective equipment (PPE)
- Steel-toed boots
- Hard hats with chin straps are required; chin straps must be worn on elevated surfaces
- Protective eyewear
- Hand protection
- Arm guards/sleeves
- Hearing protection if required by the hearing conservation program
