Your responsibilities

  • Inspect vessels to ensure customer compliance with the rules and regulations governing the St. Lawrence Seaway System.
  • Conduct inspections and analyze and report information related to accidents, incidents, and violations.
  • Provide subject matter expertise to various SLSMC departments as required.
  • Liaise and coordinate with external stakeholders, including Owners, Agents, Masters, Classification Surveyors and Underwriters, Pilotage, Transport Canada–Marine Safety, and other government agencies.
  • Monitor and report on vessel safety, security, and compliance data.
  • Perform enforcement duties as a designated Enforcement Officer under the Canada Marine Act.

Your profile

  • Holds post-secondary technical education;
  • Minimum of eight (8) years of operational experience;
  • Certificate of Competency as a Master Mariner valid for Canadian vessels;
  • Enforcement Officer qualification under the Canada Marine Act;
  • Extensive knowledge of marine legislation, regulations, practices, and the operation and specifications of various vessel types;
  • Specific knowledge in marine surveying, inspections, and accident investigation;
  • Knowledge of applicable procedures, rules, standards, and safe work practices for performing duties
  • Proficiency in French and English, both oral and written, to communicate effectively with captains and stakeholders;
  • Valid Class G (Ontario) or Class 5 (Québec) driver’s licence with an insurable driving record;
  • Eligible to obtain Marine Transportation Security Clearance.
