In this training role, you’ll use your submarine Ship Control background to deliver high‑quality instruction, maintain and update Astute Class Ship Control courseware, and support learners as they develop the skills needed to operate confidently within a modern submarine control environment. You’ll assess trainee progress through written and practical evaluations, provide constructive feedback, and help guide their development through coaching, mentoring, and targeted interventions. Day-to-day you’ll be:
• Delivering Astute-class ship control training in a specialised facility
• Reviewing and evaluating technical data and change notifications
• Ensuring training meets prescribed standards, quality, and cost targets
• Supporting students with varying levels of experience
• Liaising with training design teams to provide subject matter expertise
The role is based onsite at HMNB Clyde. We welcome applications from candidates seeking either full‑time or part‑time hours.
Experience required of the Ship Control Officer of the Watch:
• In-depth knowledge of ship control systems operations
• Experience managing submarine control rooms
• Background in the Royal Navy submarine service
• Previous training delivery experience (desirable)
• Recent Astute-class submarine experience (desirable)
Qualifications for the Ship Control Officer of the Watch
• Warrant Officer or Senior Rating within the Royal Navy
• DTC / DTTT qualification (advantageous)

The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role.
