Job Description

Note - this position will work steady Night Shift (7PM - 7AM) on a 2-3-2 rotation.

Responsible for the supervision of all shift employees and must comply with all safety, quality, production and housekeeping standards. This role directly supervises 6-8 employees, including: training, planning, assigning and directing work, appraising performances, rewarding & disciplining, addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Responsibility for Quality

  • Individual is expected to perform job duties in compliance with defined management system requirements.
  • Individual has responsibility for product quality and is authorized to stop production in order to correct quality problems.

Responsibility for Safety, Health & Environmental

  • Individual is expected to perform job duties safely and in compliance with documentation outlined in the Safety, Health & Environmental system.
  • Follow instructions for safe handling of materials as per product Safety Data Sheet.
  • Wears proper safety equipment as specified in Safety Data Sheets or work instruction.
  • Attend monthly safety meetings as scheduled by the Safety Department.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Supervises all co-workers and plant operations of the shift.
  • Responsible for all processes, equipment, co-workers, safety and housekeeping for the plant and meeting production quality and quantity standards on the shift.
  • Maintains a thorough knowledge of all extrusion processes and equipment.
  • Resolves and reports any process or equipment problems to the Production Manager. Calls in Maintenance and/or Color on weekends and nights for assistance with problems.
  • Organizes and plans extrusion orders for smooth operations. Works in conjunction with Production Manager and Scheduling Function to optimize production.
  • Assures that established policy, procedures and union contracts are followed.
  • Verifies correct identification, weights, and location of materials.
  • Maintains computerized inventory system for materials and products in the plant.
  • Prepares and verifies weekly payroll information to ensure timely and accurate compensation for co-workers on the shift.
  • Maintains vacation schedules for co-workers to ensure appropriate staffing levels for each shift.
  • Follows overtime procedures when replacing co-workers for vacations, call-off and training.
  • Completes appropriate paperwork for each production run on a daily basis.
  • Troubleshoots problems.
  • Performs other duties and assignments as directed by supervisor.
  • Inspects equipment for reliability
  • Directs personnel in production issues, line change-overs, and process.
  • Confers with management and production personnel on production and safety problems, and recommends changes in equipment, plant layout, lighting, ventilation, or work practices to improve manufacturing standards and quality of product.
  • Compiles required reports regarding regular inspections, material testing, and steps taken to resolve deficiencies.
  • Interprets company policies to workers and enforces safety regulations.
  • Analyzes and resolves work problems, or assists workers in solving work problems
  • Initiates or suggests plans to motivate workers to achieve work goals.
  • Confers with other supervisors to coordinate activities of individual departments.

Be a mentor and Field Verifier to other employees and actively participate in the training program.

Physical Requirements

  • 7-8 hours per 12-hour shift walking and standing consistently
  • 4-6 hours per 12-hour shift sitting consistently

Recommended Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Two-year associate’s degree in a technical field is preferred.
  • Two years of production background preferred.
  • Working knowledge of extrusion equipment and processes.
  • Working knowledge of computerized inventory system.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience.
  • Skilled in the use of basic computer software and programs
