Shift Supervisor - Decatur, IL

This position is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day material handling and logistics operations of a cogeneration facility. This position directly supervises the material handling hourly employees to ensure the safe, reliable, and efficient unloading, handling, storage, and movement of fuel and byproducts throughout the facility. They must be able to establish expectations for safety, reliability, quality, service, productivity, and operational discipline. Reports to the Plant Operations Superintendent and works closely with Operations, Maintenance, Commercial, and Transportation teams to coordinate equipment availability, inventory management, unloading schedules, and operational priorities. This position will take a lead role in improving unloading efficiency, reducing demurrage risk, optimizing inventory levels, and driving continuous improvement initiatives within the material handling area.

Job Functions

  • Responsible for planning and coordinating unloading activities and material flow operations to effectively drive productivity, safety, reliability, and quality.
  • Directly supervises material handling personnel and daily material handling operations including truck, rail, ash handling, and inventory.
  • Coordinates with Operations, Maintenance, and Commercial teams to align unloading schedules, inventory targets, and equipment availability with plant operating needs.
  • Monitor fuel and byproduct inventories to minimize demurrage exposure and ensure reliable plant operation.
  • Identify and implement opportunities to improve unloading efficiency, equipment utilization, housekeeping, and operational performance.
  • Acts as a liaison between production, maintenance, transportation, and commercial departments.
  • Assist with employee training, safety initiatives, quality expectations, area housekeeping, and standard operating procedure compliance.
  • Support troubleshooting and root cause analysis efforts related to material handling equipment reliability and operational issues.
  • Work with plant leadership to establish and achieve plant operational and material handling performance goals.
  • Uses Microsoft Office, Maximo, and other computer systems to maintain records and files essential to operational analysis, reporting, inventory management, and performance tracking

Minimum Requirements

  • Strong commitment to safety and operational excellence.
  • Strong understanding of industrial material handling operations, logistics coordination, and inventory management principles.
  • Ability to identify root causes, develop corrective actions, and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to effectively prioritize work in a fast-paced operational environment.
  • Strong communication skills, both oral and written, for coordination across departments, employee training, reporting, and operational analysis.
  • Must be proactive in dealing with conflict, influencing others, managing priorities, organization and planning, partnering with multiple departments, and utilizing a proactive approach to reliability and operational efficiency.
  • Ability to supervise and develop hourly employees while maintaining accountability and engagement.

Education

  • High School diploma or equivalent required.

Experience

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in an industrial, manufacturing, power generation, terminal, or material handling environment.
  • Previous leadership or supervisory experience preferred.
  • Experience with rail, truck, bulk material handling, inventory management, or heavy industrial logistics preferred.

Other

  • This position is a Monday through Friday day shift position with OT and on-call.
  • This is a salaried exempt position.

Base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Hourly and salaried non-exempt employees will also be paid overtime pay when working qualifying overtime hours.

If hired, employees will be in an “at-will position” and the Company reserves the right to modify base pay (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.

The pay range for this position is expected to be between:

$58,100.00 - $108,000.00
