Purpose of Job

This position supervises and directs the activities of hourly personnel in the Production Department for the safe, quality, and efficient execution of production plans to ensure availability of sufficient products to meet sales. Monitors plant operation and directs corrective action when plant upsets or nonconforming product occur, seeking guidance when necessary. Responsible for compliance with SHE, quality, and HR policies that relate to plant operations, product quality, and managing direct reports. Drives continuous improvement in operating procedures and plant equipment to maximize efficiency and productivity. Maintains certain records of plant equipment and operations. Communicates on a daily basis with Maintenance, the QC Laboratory, and production support groups to prioritize activities and guidance to meeting production targets.

Key Accountabilities

· Perform daily shift changeover meetings for shift goal setting, driving safety and ensuring compliance with site personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements.

· Responsible for ensuring that direct reports are compliance with all Sasol and site SHE, quality, and human resource policies and procedures that affect plant operations.

· Assign, supervise, and review work of hourly personnel for assigned work unit. Monitor daily direct report performance and provide guidance and feedback as needed to improve performance.

· Perform recordkeeping and measurement of process variables, material handling, and logistics.

· Completes a daily shift report to accurately reflect the activities of the shift.

· Review production logs and records required for monitoring plant performance for completion and accuracy and submit for recordkeeping at the end of the run.

· Implement production plans according to approved schedules.

· Inspects and evaluates work in progress, identifies any problem areas, and may direct remedial action with guidance from management.

· Responsible for timely collection and submission of samples to QC lab and following up on results to make process changes to produce product that meet specification.

· Responsible for filling out call out form, reviewing hourly timesheet for accuracy prior to approving.

· Responsible for training new and current employees by performing on-the-job training and ensuring direct reports are trained on appropriate procedure prior to operating a piece of equipment.

· Ownership of general work permit issuance and closure.

· Responsible for driving daily housekeeping in work areas to improve safety and eliminate cross contamination.

· Responsible for stocking up operational and safety supplies for the operations personnel.

· Perform duties assigned by production superintendent.

Formal Education

· High School Diploma/GED

Working Experience

· 2-5 years experience as a frontline shift supervisor in an industrial manufacturing environment.

Required Personal and Professional Skills

  • Proficiency in native-level English.
  • Must have strong organizational, communication, and change management skills.
  • Self-motivated and ability to work with little supervision.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suits (Work, Excel, Outlook )
  • SAP knowledge.
