Job Description

The Shift Supervisor position at the GRIT COE RRS programs serves as a peer leader and mentor within the recovery services program, providing direct support to residents in recovery and offering guidance and oversight to the Recovery Specialist (RS) team. The Shift Supervisor oversees daily operations of the recovery program by providing leadership to staff, monitoring adherence to program policies, and responding to critical needs and emergencies. The Shift Supervisor also acts as a liaison between staff and leadership, maintains accurate documentation, and supports the therapeutic goals of the program. The person in this position is responsible for promoting recovery principles, modeling wellness, supporting individuals and ensuring a safe and structured environment for program participants and the staff team.

Pay Range: $20-$22 an hour

Open Shift: Monday through Friday 10am-6pm (40hrs)

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide training, onboarding, and ongoing support to RS staff.
  • Monitor completion and quality of daily Service Notes, offering guidance as needed.
  • Oversee resident financials and program sharps through monitoring daily RS tasks.
  • Assist with staff scheduling to ensure adequate shift coverage.
  • Coordinate appointments and transportation for residents.
  • Provide crisis intervention, de-escalation, and assist with Incident Reports.
  • Lead resident admissions, including engagement and orientation for new residents.
  • Organize and facilitate activities, outings, recovery groups, and community engagement opportunities.
  • Monitor staff performance, attend supervision and team meetings, and communicate updates on resident progress.
  • Support residents in goal setting, transition planning, and aftercare while ensuring compliance with program policies, documentation, and required drills.

About the GRIT Program

The GRIT program at MHA provides residential rehabilitation for individuals with substance use challenges and co-occurring mental health conditions. Residents participate in individualized counseling, recovery-focused programming, and community activities such as education, job training, or employment, all within a structured and supportive environment. With locations in Springfield (men’s programs) and Holyoke (LGBTQIA+ program), GRIT combines the comforts of home with access to vital resources. A skilled, multidisciplinary team works closely with each resident to support recovery, personal growth, and long-term stability, while creating personalized aftercare plans for a successful return to the community.

Requirements

  • Ability to work M-F mid-shift hours, with some weekend flexibility based on the needs of the program
  • Valid driver’s license, reliable vehicle, acceptable driving record, and sufficient insurance
  • Demonstrated ability to lead a team, work independently, manage time, prioritize tasks, take initiative, follow through, and work cooperatively as a member of a team
  • Good oral, written, computer, and organizational skills
  • Demonstrated ability to adapt to the changing needs of the program participants
  • Strong interpersonal skills, patience, caring, and compassion
  • Must be at least eighteen years old
  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED).
  • At least one year of applicable experience in the program environment is preferred. Experience with individuals with substance use and/or mental health challenges preferred.
