Role Purpose

Corning Incorporated is hiring a Shift Supervisor at Sullivan Park, Corning’s central research and development campus in Painted Post, NY This is a full-time onsite role supporting a rotating swing shift schedule in a 24/7 operation The schedule rotates through Wednesday–Tuesday, 7:00 a.m.–3:00 p.m.; Thursday–Wednesday, 3:00 p.m.–11:00 p.m.; and overnight coverage from 11:00 p.m.–7:00 a.m. through Friday morning, followed by built-in time off before the rotation restarts.

Join Corning’s Research Melting Operations team, a service organization that supports Corning’s technical community at the front end of innovation. This team runs like a small-scale manufacturing operation and produces glass samples and data used to evaluate new concepts before they advance to the next stage of development or manufacturing. In this role, you will lead a shift team of Process Assistants and Process Technicians and help keep the operation safe, staffed, and on track to meet internal customer needs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead day-to-day shift execution in a 24/7 research melting operation
  • Supervise and support a team of Process Assistants and Process Technicians
  • Coordinate staffing, priorities, and shift handoffs to meet internal customer deliverables
  • Serve as the on-shift point person for operational issues and escalation needs
  • Monitor equipment and process conditions and coordinate response to issues
  • Help ensure the next shift is set up for success
  • Track training and qualification progress for shift employees
  • Reinforce safety requirements, operating procedures, and standard work
  • Partner with scientists and support teams to execute experiments and project work
  • Support workplace organization and housekeeping aligned with 5S practices

Minimum Qualifications and Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, or high school diploma / equivalent plus 5+ years of relevant supervisory or technical experience
  • Ability to work the rotating 24/7 shift schedule for this role
  • Ability to lead day-to-day team execution and coordinate operational priorities
  • Ability to troubleshoot issues and make sound decisions during shift operations
  • Basic computer proficiency

Preferred Qualifications and Skills

  • Experience supervising, leading, OR training employees in a manufacturing, plant, lab, or technical environment
  • Experience in a union or industrial labor environment
  • Experience supporting shift operations in manufacturing or process-based work
  • Knowledge of glass melting, thermal processing, or similar industrial processes
  • Experience with 5S, Lean, KT, or other structured problem-solving tools

The range for this position is $63,086.00 - $86,743.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education.
