Opal ANZ is an industry-leading paper and packaging business. We have an opportunity for a Shift Manager to join us at our B9 paper mill in Matraville, NSW.

Working on a rotating shift roster the Shift Manager will be required to lead mill operations and manage a team of 10 operators. Shift manager and the shift team are responsible for achieving;

  • Main operational KPIs (production throughput, safety KPIs, material and time efficiency, etc.)
  • Operational costs to budget
  • Conformance to environmental licenses

The Shift Manager will be required to develop their Technical Paper Making skills to be able to lead the team efficiently and support the team in decision making. The ability to achieve KPIs sustainably, manage operations during unexpected events, identify opportunities to improve our process and lead a team through troubleshooting and root cause analysis is key.

As a team leader, shift manager is expected to develop and maintain high performing team by managing:

  • Training and development of team
  • Adequate resourcing
  • Team member engagement & morale
  • Performance management expectations

For this role we would ideally like you to have:

  • Proven experience leading teams within a fast-paced & dynamic manufacturing environment
  • The ability to work on a rotating shift basis (as the site does operate on a 24/7 basis)
  • A strong people-oriented mindset, particularly when it comes to team leadership - motivating the team in a supportive & positive manner
  • Prior experience within paper-making industries would be highly regarded, but is not a mandatory requirement
  • Experience with SAP systems would be advantageous
  • Basic to intermediate skills with Microsoft Office programs Excel & Word
  • Experience in continuous improvement and lean manufacturing
