Cleveland-Cliffs has an immediate opening for Shift Manager Mobile Equipment at United Taconite LLC in Forbes, MN. As a Shift Manager you will direct and coordinate safe maintenance in plant truck shop and supervise the efforts of experienced craft employees to safely and efficiently perform their tasks. Also, lead the team in the safe execution of work, with a focus on the daily, weekly, and major repairs schedules in accordance with existing Cliff’s maintenance standards, plan and coordinate all aspects of taking received work orders and developing work plans for area. Also responsible for documenting the required work procedures and budgets associated with all performed work plans.

- Coordinate, facilitate, and motivate employees to safely and efficiently execute and complete their work assignments.
- Strive to keep all employees safe, and achieve this by training in safe work practices.
- Complete planned inspections, safety contacts, and task observations as part of safe production focus.
- Establish high performance standards for the employees, promote and encourage the achievement of these standards, provide feedback to employees on their progress, and implement disciplinary measures if necessary.
- Update scheduling personnel on daily and weekly carry-over work.
- Supervise hourly employees’ work and develop understanding of the work being done to increase skill level and maximize operating efficiency.
- Ensure employee compliance to corporate, property, and departmental policies and standard work procedures. Ensure compliance to the collective bargaining agreement.
- Coordinate and facilitate departmental training needs, and encourage and assist in employee development.
- Analyze and evaluate work of craft employees with an emphasis on producing recommendations necessary to drive continuous improvement in maintenance.
- Coordinate and facilitate employee involvement in the on-going improvement of work practices and procedures.
- Communicates and implements safety and loss control standards, company safety rules, and MSHA regulations. Understands and communicates environmental policies and procedures.
- Resolve employee problems through effective communication.
- Assigns work to crewmembers based on the published schedule as well as break-in work. Supervisor will frequently monitor the progress of all jobs and will deal with any roadblocks identified that are limiting the productivity of their crew.
- Prepare break-in work to include creation of work orders needed, organizing outside resources (ie: electrical, operations cleanup, etc.), and ordering and collecting parts.
- Communicate complete and incomplete work orders to scheduler at the end of each shift.
- Conducts work site visits to ensure that all assigned work is performed in a safe manner and that work areas are maintained to meet Cliffs rules and standards.
- Provides direct supervision during execution of major repairs
- If applicable, meet with afternoon supervisor to discuss; schedule progress, incomplete work, and continuation work needed
- Ensure that the daily and weekly maintenance schedules are executed and communicated and to the craftworkers/ technicians. Ensures compliance and implementation of short and long-range maintenance plans and budgets.
- Ensures 100% work order standard compliance, including close out and proper work order updating and coding.
- Organize incoming work orders into defined, planned work packages.
- Develop and document work procedures and scopes using Ellipse system.
- Identify, specify, and order required contract labor, parts, tooling, and equipment to complete the work plan.
- Build parts and standard jobs resource library.
- Ensures that the daily and weekly maintenance plan is communicated and coordinated with all those affected.
- Develop short-range and/or long-range maintenance plans and budgets.
- Updates equipment history and equipment component tracking.
- Supports the maintenance engineers, reliability engineers, and maintenance crew members in their daily functions. Communicates with operations supervisors as required.
- Supervise and direct Plant Truck Shop crews and hold them accountable to safely meet performance expectations and standard work. Where there is variation to the standard work being performed between crews or individuals take the necessary action to educate to standards. In the event the standard needs to be modified through identifying improvements to the standard, document the recommended change to the standard and bring the improvement opportunity to the senior supervisor for review.

Minimum Qualifications
- 2-year degree in technical field or equivalent.
- 3-5 years’ recent experience at mining/mineral processing facility or heavy industry
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience within an industrial production environment.
- Prior experience managing a unionized hourly workforce.
May be required to work rotating shifts, weekends, holidays, to ensure 24-hour coverage, 7 days per week during major repairs or as needed. Regular attendance is an essential requirement. Must be able to physically perform all these responsibilities safely: walk on uneven surfaces, climb equipment, operate pickup, and other small fleet vehicles, etc.

The salary range for this role is $80,000 - $105,000. An employee’s pay within the salary range will be based on numerous factors including, but not limited to, relevant education, qualifications, experience, skills, geographic location and business or organizational needs.
