Job Description

Job Summary
The Sealaska Heritage Institute (SHI) receptionist provides general office support with a variety of clerical activities and related tasks. The position is responsible for answering incoming calls, directing calls to the appropriate associates, distributing mail, and performing additional clerical duties. This position also provides support to the scholarship program and other programs as time permits.
Duties/Responsibilities
• Represents SHI in a positive manner through professional attire and communication, consistent timeliness and attendance, and cultural awareness and sensitivity.
• Answers telephone calls and directs callers to the appropriate person; transfers callers to voicemail when the person is unavailable.
• Greets and directs visitors to SHI.
• Receives and forwards messages for SHI staff.
• Provides callers with information, such as SHI address, directions to SHI, SHI fax numbers, SHI website, and other related information.
• Receives, sorts, and forwards incoming mail; maintains and routes publications.
• Coordinates the pick-up and delivery of express mail services (FedEx, UPS, etc.).
• Assists in the ordering, receiving, stocking, and distribution of office supplies.
• Maintains order and tidiness of copy/mail room.
• Assists with other related clerical duties, such as photocopying, faxing, filing, and collating documents.
• Assists scholarships with scholarship program through answering questions, sending letters, mailing checks, and other duties.
• Assists with travel and accommodation arrangements.
• Other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibility
This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
Work Environment
This position’s duties are performed at the Walter Soboleff Building. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines.
Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to verbally communicate. This position is largely a sedentary role. However, some filing is required, which would require the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets, and bend or stand as necessary.

About this Role
This is a full-time benefited position. SHI employees are expected to work during SHI’s regular business hours of 8:00am to 4:30pm Monday to Friday. Additionally, many employees may work up to 45 hours per week or additional time as needed to meet workload demands or special events such as Celebration.
Required Education and Experience
• High school diploma or GED
• One year of similar office experience
