Acceptable Experience and Education
High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and (1) one year experience working in security;

Or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Certificates and Licenses Required
Must have or obtain by date of hire a valid driver's license applicable to job responsibilities, with a driving record acceptable to the County of El Paso.

Examples of duties

Essential Duties
Conducts security inspections of the courthouse and takes appropriate action on observed discrepancies;

Searches individuals and their packages using sophisticated scanning equipment, (i.e.x-ray machines, metal detectors);

Detains individuals who may have violated applicable laws/regulations;

Removes weapons and contraband from persons entering courthouse;

Monitors cameras, alarms, elevators, etc., in the facility;

Assists Sheriff's Deputies when instructed;

Takes appropriate action to safeguard lives;

Ensures County property is secured, locked, free of vagrants, etc.; provides secure escort service to county employees or constituents when appropriate;

Renders first aid to any injured individual and administer Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) when necessary;

Monitors surveillance equipment for breaches of security and other criminal violations;

Assists in the search of Courthouse as directed for explosive devices or bombs;

Conducts searches for lost or missing persons;

Extinguishes small fires;

Assists in the evacuation of Courthouse when instructed;

Assists public in locating offices and courts; answers phone, for outside agencies, other County departments and the general public concerning inquiries; makes appropriate referrals for assistance;

Documents all reportable incidents;

Keeps supervisor current of pertinent information;

Writes reports when required and prepares related paperwork, i.e. daily activity logs, inventory;

Provides inventory control for lost items;

Orders supplies as directed:

Checks-in vendors for deliveries;

Adheres and complies with office policies and procedures;

Adheres and complies with federal, state and local laws;

Commits self to providing excellent customer service and demonstrate commitment through cooperative team and individual efforts; and

Creates a high quality work culture through participation in and emphasis on training and mentoring to develop leadership, management, and technical skills in self and all employees, including safety related training and skills.

Other Important Duties*
Performs such other related duties as may be assigned.

May be summoned while off duty to assist in major emergencies involving the courthouse.

Works shift work;

As members of the County of El Paso Emergency Response System, all El Paso County employees are designated as Disaster Service Workers during a proclaimed emergency and may be required to train on emergency response and/or perform certain emergency services at the direction of their supervisor.

The Courthouse Security Officer provides the safety and security of the El Paso County Courthouse, court participants, county employees and individuals conducting business in the courthouse.
