SCOPE OF POSITION

The House Supervisor position at The Salvation Army Carey House, under the supervision of the Shelter Director, is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the house to ensure the safety and well-being of residents. This position implements all Carey House policies and procedures and maintains an orderly, safe, and supportive environment.

Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Ensure safety of residents and property by monitoring security videos, conducting regular rounds of all wings and exterior areas, and following Emergency Fire Procedures when alarms are activated
  • Respond to resident needs, concerns, and issues, including interpersonal conflicts and medical concerns or emergencies as needed
  • Maintain detailed records of significant interactions and assistance provided to residents
  • Report all incidents, concerns, and grievances to Shelter Director and/or Corps Officer
  • Conduct daily inspections of the property to identify current and potential issues; develop and follow through on plans to address them
  • Maintain supply inventory and communicate needs to the Shelter Director in advance of depletion
  • Ensure resident compliance with Carey House policies and procedures, including but not limited to:
    • Develop and monitor daily chore lists, updated weekly or as directed by the Shelter Director
    • Assist with follow-through on resident Action Plans as assigned
    • Complete intake processes for new residents, as needed
    • Maintain required statistics and reports
    • Assist in coordinating resident schedules to ensure front desk coverage
    • Provide case management support to assigned residents as directed by the Shelter Director
  • Review all logs and records and receive shift briefings from outgoing staff to ensure continuity of operations
  • Enter required data into HMIS as assigned
  • Maintain organization and sanitation of food shelves, dorm kitchens, and storage area
  • Monitor house phone and complete assigned administrative tasks
  • During weather or other emergencies, coordinate with emergency personnel to provide emergency lodging, including setting up cots and supporting temporary guests
  • Maintain confidentiality and adhere to ethical standards in accordance with The Salvation Army policies
  • Always provide services without discrimination
  • Demonstrate understanding and support of The Salvation Army mission

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

This position assists in the supervision of volunteers and residents

Qualifications

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Prior experience in a residential, shelter, or human services setting preferred

SKILLS AND COMPETENICIES

  • Ability to address and coordinate minor maintenance needs in dormitory settings
  • Ability to work afternoon and evening shifts, including two weekends per month
  • Valid New Hampshire driver’s license
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including conflict management and de-escalation
  • Basic knowledge of substance use disorders preferred
  • Proficiency in Microsoft 365 with strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds and experiences
  • Demonstrated commitment to helping others

COMPLIANCE AND TRAINING REQUIREMENTS

  • Completion of KeepSAfe abuse risk management training as required by policy
  • Meet TSA Driver requirements within 30 days of hire
  • Obtain and maintain First Aid and CPR certification within 30 days of hire
  • Complete Narcan training within 30 days of hire
  • Complete HMIS training and certification within 30 days of hire
