The Opportunity

Our Lysaght business is looking for a Sheetmetal Trade Manager to join the team based in Lyndhurst VIC Made in Australia since 1921, Lysaght manufactures and markets steel building products that have helped shape the nation: from iconic corrugated roofing over Australian homes, to large commercial and industrial projects.

An exciting opportunity exists to lead a growing sheetmetal manufacturing operation at Lyndhurst, Victoria. Backed by significant investment in new technology, including state-of-the-art laser cutting, robotic press brake and fabrication equipment, salvagnini panel bender and turrett punch, this role will be responsible for driving operational performance, maximising equipment utilisation, and delivering strong commercial outcomes. The position will lead a skilled production team while working closely with engineering, sales and operations stakeholders to support business growth and continuous improvement.

This is a hands-on leadership role suited to an experienced manufacturing professional who combines strong sheetmetal fabrication knowledge with people leadership and commercial acumen. You'll play a key role in shaping the future direction of a rapidly growing business by developing team capability, improving manufacturing efficiency, identifying automation opportunities, and helping expand the organisation's product and service offering.

What Will You Do?

  • Lead the day-to-day operations of the sheetmetal manufacturing division, ensuring safe, efficient and profitable outcomes.
  • Drive utilisation and performance of laser cutting, press brake, robotic bending and fabrication equipment.
  • Manage, coach and develop a team across multiple shifts, building capability and improving performance.
  • Coordinate production planning, labour allocation and workflow scheduling to meet customer delivery requirements.
  • Identify and implement automation, robotics and process improvement initiatives to improve efficiency and productivity.
  • Monitor operational KPIs, machine utilisation and manufacturing recovery to optimise business performance.
  • Work closely with engineering, logistics and sales teams to improve manufacturing outcomes and customer service
  • Support estimating, pricing and quoting activities to ensure commercially viable outcomes.
  • Identify opportunities to expand product offerings, increase revenue streams and reduce outsourced manufacturing.
  • Champion a culture focused on safety, continuous improvement, quality and operational excellence.

More About You

  • Demonstrated experience in sheetmetal manufacturing, fabrication or engineered-to-order manufacturing environments.
  • Proven leadership experience managing production teams and developing employee capability.
  • Experience operating or managing CNC fabrication equipment such as laser cutters, press brakes, turret punches or robotic bending machinery.
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, operational KPI management and continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Commercial awareness, including experience with estimating, quoting, pricing or identifying business growth opportunities.
  • Strong communication, planning and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to work across operations, engineering and sales functions.
