SUPERVISES:There are no direct reports with this position.
Under general supervision, the sheet metal worker fabricates, installs and maintains sheet metal equipment and fixtures such as machine guards, grease pans, shelves, lockers, tanks, ducts, metal roofing, ventilators, etc. with attention to knowing and using safe work practices.
TYPICAL DUTIES:1. * Select types of sheet metal or nonmetallic material.2. * Measure and mark dimensions and reference lines on metal sheets.3. * Drill holes in metal for screws, bolts, and rivets. 4. * Install metal sheets with supportive frameworks. 5. * Fabricates, installs and maintains in good repair the sheet-metal equipment and fixtures (such as machine guards, grease pans, shelves, lockers, tanks, ventilators, chutes, ducts, metal roofing) at worksites. 6. *Plans and lays out all types of sheet-metal maintenance work from blueprints, models, or other specifications. 7. *Sets up and operates all available types of sheet-metal working machines; using a variety of hand tools in cutting, bending, forming, shaping, fitting and assembling; and installing sheet-metal articles as required.8. *Fabricate or alter parts at work sites9. *Maneuver large sheet metal parts to be installed, and anchor the parts10. *Fasten seams or joints by welding, bolting, riveting, or soldering 11. *Document service orders with actions and progress notes, ensuring accuracy before submitting in a timely manner.12. *Follow procedures, regulations and guidelines, minimizing errors and risks.13. *Diagnose problems and determine how to correct them.14. *Communication with customer relating to work performed. 15. Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.

TYPICAL QUALIFICATIONS:• 2-3 years formal apprenticeship or equivalent experience in sheet metal. • Mathematical ability including addition, subtraction, multiplication and division; measurement of dimensions;• Use and maintenance of own tools may be required;• Ability to manage material resources and time;• Ability to work safely;• Ability to follow directions, instructions, structured process and procedures, and to complete tasks;• Customer service skills to act responsively to customer inquiries and requests; and escalate the more difficult matters appropriately;• Communication skills to provide procedural and factual information, and to follow written and oral instructions;• Flexibility to adapt to changing work priorities, and to build effective working relationships with staff, customers and others; • Demonstrated organizational, problem-solving and common-sense skills;• Ability to manage and accurately track material resources and time, and adapt to changing work priorities;• Ability to travel to various facilities, and to work independently and as a team.
EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
High School Diploma or GED
CERTIFICATES OR LICENSES REQUIRED:
The following licenses or certificates may be required depending on local, state and/or contract requirements.
Valid Driver's License
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Employees must have the ability to perform the following physical demands for extended periods of time with or without assistance:
• Maneuvering to and around equipment• Bending, kneeling, stooping, and reaching • Climbing stepstools or ladders• Lifting and moving equipment weighing up to 50 pounds
WORK ENVIRONMENT: Work is performed at a customer’s location in office, shop, warehouse, or outdoor environment. May require driving to and from worksite locations. Equipment can be located in crawl spaces, rooftops, and outside facility. Employees may be exposed to hazardous and/or toxic substances, electrical shock, noise from equipment, and depending on external weather conditions, wind, rain, cold, and heat.
