SHEET METAL FABRICATOR UTILITY -- 2nd Shift
Metals USA -- Gregor Technologies Division is seeking a Sheet Metal Fabricator Utility in Torrington, CT. Metals USA is a solid, growth oriented aluminum/stainless steel distribution center servicing the defense, aerospace and fabrication industries.
The Sheet Metal Utility Worker is responsible for fabricating, welding and assembling machined parts by setting up, operating and monitoring equipment used for sheet metal support in a safe and efficient manner, maintain quality and safety standards.
Responsibilities:
- Sets up metal fabricating support equipment such as Pemsert, DA grinders and Timesaver as needed.
- Applies knowledge of assembly to perform sheet metal fabrication.
- Completes production paperwork, follows shop system data collection procedures and follows inspection procedures on a daily basis.
- Maintains work areas in a clean, orderly and safe manner to include returning tools to designated areas.
- Deburrs, sands and polish finished materials.
- Operates fabrication equipment using MIG and TIG welding machinery. Uses a variety of hand tools as required.
- Inspects and tests welds & equipment constantly. Checks for durability as well as meeting specified standards.
- Performs scheduled maintenance and inspection on equipment per machine specifications.
- Notifies management of product discrepancies or equipment malfunctions, and or personal injuries.
- Adheres to established company policies and procedures paying special attention to safety regulations.
- Adheres to Reliance Steel and Aluminum's Code of Conduct as well as customer confidentiality requirements.
- Regular and predictable attendance is required to perform the duties of a sheet metal fabricator.
- Adheres to all company and customer confidentiality requirements.
- Wears personal protective equipment in accordance with training guidelines.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Certifications/Licenses:
- Valid OSHA Forklift certification
Physical Demands:
Occupation requires physical activity more than 66% of the time (> 5.5 hours per day)
- Stand, walk, sit, handling/fingering, reach outward, reach above shoulder, climb, squat or kneel or bend
- Lift, carry, push and/or pull 51 -- 100 lbs. with assistance
Other Physical Requirements:
Must wear the proper personal protective equipment (PPE)
- Steel-toed boots
- Hard hats with chin strap; chin strap must be worn when on elevated surfaces
- Protective eyewear
- Hand protection
- Arm guards/sleeves
- Hearing protection if required by the hearing conservation program
Work Environment:
May be exposed to some of the following working conditions.
- Working inside of an industrial warehouse
- Moderate to loud noise levels
- Vibration
- Oils, dust, fumes and metallic particles
- Day and night shifts
Qualifications
- High School Graduate or Equivalent
- Two year technical degree and/or apprenticeship in fabrication or welding
- Prior experience with all types of welding to include MIG & TIG
- Ability to comprehend oral and written communication
- Must have mechanical aptitude and good math skills
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, documents and blue prints.
- Ability to read measuring instruments such as measuring tapes, micrometers, calipers, dial indicators and gauges
- Must be organized with attention to detail
- Ability to demonstrate professionalism & diplomacy
- Ability to comprehend technical communications
- Computer Literacy with understanding of computer programming
Metals USA offers a competitive starting hourly rate $20.00 - $21.00 plus shift differential and benefits plus upward mobility professional growth.
