SHECP Summer Internships unite students with agencies that work in distressed communities across the country. Student interns live with like-minded peers from other colleges and universities while working for a nonprofit or government organization addressing some issue related to poverty.
Students must be first-years, sophomores, or juniors to apply, with preference given to sophomore and junior candidates. The selection committee will use a rubric based on SHECP’s guideline recommendations for selecting interns by assessing applicants' maturity, genuine interest in issues of poverty and human capability, flexibility, academic knowledge about poverty and inequality, and humility and emotional intelligence. It will also consider relevant coursework, volunteer and internship experience, and the lived experience of poverty.
Selection will be made by a committee made up, among others, of Levitt Center and COOP staff. If you have any questions or concerns, please email levitt@hamilton.edu.
