We are the UK's aviation and aerospace regulator and recognised as a world leader in its field. Our activities are diverse, enabling the aviation industry to meet the highest safety standards, and we pride ourselves on our ability to adapt to the constantly evolving aviation environment.

The Shared Service Centre (SSC) at the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) provides a range of services that underpin the UK’s Aviation Safety framework and is the starting point for so many CAA processes where the first line of regulatory control and safety regulation begins at the application stage. We handle the applications for most of the licences, certificates, approvals, permits and permissions that the CAA issues.

The Role

Our comprehensive on the job training means you'll need to be flexible – processing different types of applications and information, dealing with telephone queries, managing emails and learning about all aspects of the SSC and its' services all the while making sure excellent customer service is at the heart of everything you do.

You'll be surprised at the technical expertise, insight, and knowledge you can learn on the job and in time, find yourself advising and guiding others on specialist subjects.

About You

We need people who are great team players with a collaborative approach, able to work in an environment of change and are comfortable with switching focus depending on workload demands. As this is a high-paced environment, you will need to be proactive, not afraid of challenges and willing to go the extra mile to ensure the delivery of tasks and deadlines are met.

IT skills in a range of Microsoft packages and using bespoke databases and systems are essential as well as the ability to communicate clearly and professionally, both verbally and in writing. You will need to be conscientious in your own work with an emphasis on quality and high standards, as well as having an eye for detail when checking and reviewing documentation received into the department. Previous experience of working in a customer service or aviation related setting would be an advantage but not essential.

What Can We Offer You?

We are focused on the development of our people, and you will have the opportunity to work alongside creative and collaborative team members who are keen to make a difference to the CAA.

We offer a hybrid working arrangement however successful candidates will be required to attend training onsite in the Gatwick office for approximately the first 12 weeks of their employment.

Additional Information

For many appointments within the CAA, these roles require access to operationally sensitive infrastructure and/or Nationally Protected information. For these roles the post holders must undergo National Security Vetting and achieve the appropriate level of clearance.

To be vetted you must have the right to work in the UK so that meaningful checks can be undertaken.

If you do not meet these requirements, we may not be able to accept your application.

For more information on BPSS clearance please visit - BPSS clearance

The CAA values high ethical standards and personal integrity among employees. If invited for interview you will be asked to complete a declaration of interest.

Relocation & Property

The CAA will be relocating from Aviation House (Our Gatwick Office) to new premises in a few years’ time. Our move is driven by strategic, operational and environmental considerations.

We will be moving to a new local home, up to a 15-mile radius of Aviation House, to minimise disruption for our valued colleagues and customers.

We are now working with colleagues and visitors to understand what we need in our new office, before we start our property search. We will sell Aviation House and land, vacate the site and move to new premises, but we do not expect to move before 2028

Inclusive Recruitment

We are passionate about diversity and ensuring all are included at the CAA. We are an equal opportunity employer and actively encourage applications from candidates of all backgrounds. We use fair and inclusive selection approaches to hire the best person for the job based on merit alone.

As a member of the Disability Confident scheme, applicants who meet the minimum criteria for a role with us will be guaranteed an interview. If you require an adjustment for any reason, please let us know.

We have embraced hybrid working and offer flexible working patterns, being open to having a conversation about what works for you. We know where and when we work is important in achieving a work-life balance.
