Full-time opportunity, 12 month contract
Location & Hours of Operation: Ability to commute to our in-person care locations in downtown Calgary, with the flexibility to provide virtual support as required. This role operates on rotating shifts consisting of a mix of daytime, evening, and weekend shifts, ensuring 2 days off per week. To support work-life balance, schedules are posted 4 to 8 weeks in advance.
PurposeMed's office is located on the unceded and traditional territories of the peoples of the Treaty 7 region which includes the nations of the Siksika, the Piikani, the Kainai, the Îethka Stoney Nakoda which consists of the Chiniki, Bearspaw, and Good Stoney Bands, and the people of the Tsuut'ina First Nation. The city of Calgary is also homeland to the historic Northwest Métis and to the Otipemisiwak Métis government, Métis Nation Battle River Territory, Nose Hill Métis District 5 and Elbow Métis District 6.
Who we hope to find:
Come and join the #1 rated PrEP provider in North America, Freddie! We’re looking for a compassionate and dedicated Registered Nurse to provide high-quality, in-person sexual health care to our patients in Calgary.
At Freddie, our patients are our #1 priority—we’re passionate about delivering an exceptional, 11/10 star experience. Our in-person RN team provides empathetic, stigma-free, and patient-centered care, with a focus on PrEP (Pre-exposure Prophylaxis). This role requires strong clinical skills, excellent communication, and a commitment to reducing health disparities within diverse populations, including those in the LGBTQ2IA+ community.
In this role, you'll make an impact by:
Providing Client Education and Counselling
- Providing comprehensive sexually transmitted and blood borne infection (STBBI) prevention education to clients (with a focus on HIV prevention), including risk reduction strategies and behavioural counselling
- Conducting pre and post-test counseling for HIV and STBBI testing, ensuring confidentiality and sensitivity to clients’ needs
Delivering Expert Clinical Care and Testing
- Administering and interpreting HIV point of care testing
- Performing phlebotomy to collect relevant diagnostic laboratory samples
- Initiating and managing clients on PrEP therapy, including medication education, adherence counseling, and follow-up care under supervision or directive of a licensed prescriber
- Providing counseling and treatment for positive STBBI results under supervision or directive of a licensed prescriber
- Maintaining accurate, timely, and detailed clinical documentation in accordance with organizational and regulatory standards
We need someone who has:
- An active registration as a Registered Nurse with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta
- 3+ years of experience in a clinical nursing role
- Excellent proficiency in phlebotomy and administration of SC/IM injections
- Clinical experience in a semi-independent practice role in the care of medical patients and/or sexual health
- Proficiency in adhering to established policies and procedures
- A flexible mindset and a positive approach to change — our in-person program is actively growing and scheduling needs will evolve
- Availability for daytime and evening shifts, with openness to weekend shifts that may begin in the near term, including the possibility of virtual weekend coverage
- A calm and non-judgmental communication style
- Excellent communication skills and empathetic care delivery
It would also be great if you have:
- An ambitious and independent nature
- Nurse clinician or charge nurse experience
- Clinical experience working with members of LGBTQ2S+, gender and sexually diverse communities
- Experience working in the private sector, a start-up, or a technology company
- Experience working from a trauma-informed lens
Compensation:
- $83,000 - $92,000 CAD a year
- The compensation listed above refers to a yearly base salary that may vary depending on a candidate's relevant qualifications, knowledge, competencies and work experience, and other factors including market conditions.
