The School of Social Work at Renison University College prepares social work practitioners through an accessible and inclusive curriculum, at both baccalaureate and master’s levels, in a learning environment that fosters caring and competent social work practice within regional, national and international contexts and embraces principles of justice, equality and respect for diversity.

The School of Social Work invites applications for a part-time/sessional lecturer opportunity in the Spring 2026 term. The BSW Spring term runs from April to July 2026.

The School of Social Work is seeking an individual to teach the following course:

  • SWREN 471R – Social Work with Older Adults: Critical Issues and Future Trends
  • Spring 2026 (April 6 – July 24, 2026)
  • In-person on Thursdays, 1:30 PM to 4:30 PM

Compensation: The salary paid per term is $8910 plus vacation pay, based on qualifications and experience.

Course description:

Focusing on social work practice, policy and research, the course examines issues of aging such as health, economic changes, role transition, family dynamics and losses. The course also looks at implications of societal issues and the influence of recent Canadian research in the field of aging. Current innovative and traditional programs will be examined for their relevance for future work with populations of older adults.

Job duties include:

  • Preparing and adhering to the academic course syllabus
  • Using LEARN, The University of Waterloo’s online course management system, to facilitate teaching and learning
  • Facilitating the achievement of course learning objectives
  • Grading student assignments
  • Being available to meet with students outside of class hours; and,
  • Submitting final grades.

Qualifications

  • MSW degree
  • Minimum of five years of practical experience in the field of Social Work, including social policy, and/or community engagement, and groupwork.
