The School of Social Work at Renison University College (affiliated with the University of Waterloo) invites applicants for a part-time/sessional teaching opportunity in the MSW Program for the Fall 2023 term (September start date).
To teach in the MSW Program, candidates must hold a PhD degree (or near completion) and have a minimum of five years practice experience in social work, including social policy and/or community engagement.
The School of Social Work prepares social work practitioners through an accessible and inclusive curriculum, at both baccalaureate and masters levels, in a learning environment that fosters caring and competent social work practice within regional, national and international contexts and embraces principles of justice, equality and respect for diversity.
This job call is looking specifically for an individual to teach SWK 602: Social Work Practice in Health. The course is offered online and does not have any on-campus teaching obligations. The course description is as follows:
This course examines practice models and multi-level methods of intervention for effective social work practice in health care, including health promotion, disease prevention, assessment treatment, rehabilitation, continuing care, and discharge planning within the context of social, economic, environmental, and cultural variations. The distribution and determinants, as well as psychological and behavioural aspects of health and disease across the life span, are addressed. Practice models incorporate competence and empowerment as central themes. Different practice models of care are explored within the context of socio-cultural factors that inform health and well-being. Differences between the concepts of illness and disease are explored within the healthcare narrative. Resource allocation in the management of chronic and complex health conditions is examined, and interventions that support individual and family capacity to adapt to health crises or chronic health conditions are considered.

We are looking for an instructor who has experience with online teaching, and whose practice and teaching experience have direct relevance to critical health service delivery framed by a social work knowledge and values system.
