Course Number and Title: RLG308H1: Migration, Religion and City Spaces

Course Description:  Immigrants have transformed cities through religious practices. Explore how transnational migration has affected religious diversity and vitality in metropolitan areas. Through discussion, site visits and analysis, students will examine the ways that immigrants use religion to make home, challenges around the establishment of new religious structures, and policy designed to accommodate new religious practices and communities.

Class Schedule: Thursdays, 15:00-17:00 (In-Person)

Sessional Dates of Appointment:  January 1, 2027 - May 7, 2027

Salary:

  • Sessional Lecturer I - $9,820.70
  • Sessional Lecturer I Long-Term - $10,510.04
  • Sessional Lecturer II - $10,510.04
  • Sessional Lecturer II Long-Term - $10,760.28
  • Sessional Lecturer III - $10,760.28
  • Sessional Lecturer III Long-Term - $11,030.36

Please note that should rates stipulated in the Collective Agreement vary from rates stated in this posting, the rates stated in the Collective Agreement shall prevail.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • PhD in Religion or a related field
  • Ability to address the themes of the course to which the application is being made

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated teaching experience as a teaching assistant or course instructor
  • Extensive knowledge of the subject area is highly desirable

of Duties:

  • Develop a detailed syllabus and curriculum for the course
  • Presenting weekly lectures and classes as appropriate
  • Evaluate student performance
  • Grading papers and exams
  • Hold office hours and meet with students as they request
  • Handling other pedagogical and administrative tasks ordinarily associated with an undergraduate course
