The following Sessional Lecturer position is available in the Department of Arts, Culture and Media for the Fall 2026 academic session. In accordance with the Collective Agreement, this posting is being sent as an email notification to all applicants in the Department’s Applicant Pool: all Sessional Lecturers who are teaching for the Department during the current academic year or who have taught for the Department since September 1, 2005, and all persons who have submitted an application within the past twenty-four months. Preference in hiring is given to qualified individuals advanced to the rank of Sessional Lecturer II or Sessional Lecturer III in accordance with 14:12.

Salary

In accordance with the current CUPE 3902 Unit 3 Collective Agreement, the stipend rate for a half course (Y, F or S), inclusive of vacation pay, will be:

Sessional Lecturer I: $9,997.48

Sessional Lecturer I – Long Term (Six or more years as SL I): $10,699.22

Sessional Lecturer II: $10,699.22

Sessional Lecturer III: $10,953.96

Please note that should rates stipulated in the collective agreement vary from rates stated in this posting, the rates stated in the collective agreement shall prevail.

Sessional Dates (excluding Exam period): F courses: Sept. 8 – Dec. 8, 2026

Note all positions involve completion of any course grading not finished by December 31, 2026 for F courses.

MUZA/B/C66/67H3F - Small Ensemble

The practical study of small ensemble performance, including public presentations and group recitals. Students are normally expected to complete both Fall and Winter sessions in the same ensemble. Placement interview required. Small Ensembles attempts to accommodate everyone, but is not a course to learn an instrument for the first time.

All normal duties related to the design and teaching of a university credit course, including preparation and delivery of course content; development, administration and marking of assignments and final portfolios; calculation and submission of grades; holding regular office hours.

A graduate degree in music is required. Instructor must have expertise as a composer or arranger of film or video game music. Instructor must have an active practice as a performing musician in small ensembles, and as a music director of small ensembles. Substantial experience performing and directing non-Western popular music styles is required. A strong background in music technology and music production is preferred. Teaching experience at the university level is required.

This job is posted in accordance with the CUPE 3902 Unit 3 Collective Agreement.
