Data Centers

This course presents a
comprehensive overview of key design factors for modern software-defined data
centres (SDDC). The course covers the following topics: SDDC architecture and
building blocks; Cloud strategies and enabling technologies; principles of Software-Defined
Networking (SDN) and Network Function Virtualization (NFV); Storage-Area
networks (SAN); Openflow, VXLAN and other SDDC-related protocols; IT
Infrastructure Library (ITIL) framework for cloud management and service
assurance; Data Centre security and high availability (HA); Scalability,
Capacity management and Resource Allocation; Orchestration and automation;
Advanced data centre technologies.

Reporting to the Dean, the Sessional Lecturer provides
instruction to undergraduate students in the Faculty of Business and IT.

Responsibilities/Accountabilities:

The primary responsibility of the applicant is to (develop and) teach a theoretically, methodologically sophisticated and relevant course at the university level within the parameters of the course description listed above. In keeping with a technology-enhanced learning environment utilizing laptop computers and wireless connectivity, the Sessional Lecturer will deliver the course using a technology-enhanced learning approach that includes a variety of inclusive teaching and learning strategies and assessments. The Sessional Lecturer will prepare, deliver and grade all course material and assignments and be available for consultation with students during and following completion of the course session.

This position falls within the bargaining unit represented by the Public Service Alliance of Canada (PSAC) and will be subject to the terms and conditions of the collective agreement between the University and PSAC. The collective agreement may be found on the Human Resources section of our website. Candidates will be required to certify that they are currently legally eligible to work in Canada for the duration of the contract.

The successful candidate will have demonstrated excellent
teaching contributions with a proven aptitude for teaching at the
undergraduate level.

  demonstrated excellence in teaching undergraduate students in a Networking and IT
  Security program
• Demonstrated
  knowledge and experience with the Learning Management System, Canvas
• Demonstrated
  ability to deliver classes remotely, using online modalities such as Google
  Meet
• Excellent
  organizational skills are needed to effectively manage course delivery,
  the marking of assignments and exams and the ability to respond to student
  enquiries in a timely manner

Education:

• Hold a Masters degree in Information technology, Computer Science or Engineering; OR
• Hold an MSc in a field related to
  networking and information technology security; OR
• Hold
  a Bachelors degree in IT or Computer Science in combination with documented industry experience in
  software-defined data centers. Candidates should outline their industry
  experience in their application.

Preference will be given to
Candidates who hold a PhD.

Professional certifications in data centres,
virtualization, and cloud computing are considered excellent assets.

Experience:

• Industry
  experience in data centres, virtualization, and/or cloud computing is
  considered an important asset. Candidates should include details about
  their industry experience in their application
• Preference will be given to
  those candidates with demonstrated teaching excellence experiences in a Networking and IT
  Security in a
  post-secondary environment
• Proven
  experience managing large classes and diverse populations
• Experience
  coordinating and supervising Teaching Assistants as applicable

Priority will be given to an Internal Applicant who has taught any course for the University in three (3) different sessions in the past thirty-six (36) months, provided they meet the requirements for the position as outlined in the job posting.
