Course number and title:  EESD15H3 - Fundamentals of Site Remediation

Course description: This course consists of a study of the ways in which hazardous organic and inorganic materials can be removed or attenuated in natural systems. The theory behind various technologies, with an emphasis on bioremediation techniques and their success in practice. An introduction to the unique challenges associated with the remediation of surface and ground water environments, soils, marine systems, and contaminated sediments.

Estimated course enrolment: 40

Number of Hours: 0.5 FCE

Sessional dates of appointment: Specific duties will occur between September 1, 2026 and December 31, 2026.

Salary:Starting September 1, 2026 the following rates of pay apply for half courses (F or S), inclusive of vacation pay: $9,997.48 for a Sessional Lecturer I; $10,699.22 for a Sessional Lecturer I-Long Term; $10,699.22 for a Sessional Lecturer II; $10,953.96 for an Sessional Lecturer II-Long Term; $10,953.96 Sessional Lecturer III; and $11,228.90 for a Sessional Lecturer III-Long Term. Please note that should rates stipulated in the collective agreement vary from rates stated in this posting, the rates stated in the collective agreement shall prevail. The rate of pay is established by the Collective Agreement between Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE), Local 3902 Unit 3 and the University of Toronto.

Minimum qualifications: PhD in Environmental Science or similar discipline is required. Previous experience in teaching EESD15 is asset.

of duties:  The successful candidate will be expected to perform all duties related to the delivery and administration of the course. This will include: preparing lecture materials; delivering lectures; creation of all assignments, term tests, and final exam; marking student work; maintaining a record of course grades on Quercus; calculating and submitting the final course grades.

Lectures: Fridays 12 PM - 3 PM
