Course description

The last 2.5 million years has seen the repeated formation of large continental ice sheets over North America and Europe. The course will review the geologic and geomorphologic record of past glacial and interglacial climates, the formation and flow of ice sheets , and modern day cold-climate processes in Canada's north. The course includes a one-day field trip to examine the glacial record of the GTA.

Salary: Starting September 1, 2026 the following rates of pay apply for half courses (F or S), inclusive of vacation pay: $9,997.47 for a Sessional Lecturer I; $10,699.21 for a Sessional Lecturer I-Long Term; $10,699.21 for a Sessional Lecturer II; $10,953.96 for an Sessional Lecturer II-Long Term; $10,953.96 Sessional Lecturer III; and $11,228.91 for a Sessional Lecturer III-Long Term. Please note that should rates stipulated in the collective agreement vary from rates stated in this posting, the rates stated in the collective agreement shall prevail. The rate of pay is established by the Collective Agreement between Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE), Local 3902 Unit 3 and the University of Toronto.

Minimum qualifications

PhD in Geology, Environmental Earth Science or a related field, experience in the field of Glacial Geology or Glacial Sedimentology, University teaching experience preferred, familiar with instructional computer technology (i.e., Quercus) Technical and pedagogical competencies in relation to the online delivery of courses would be an asset.

Preferred qualifications: Previous experience is the more relevant criterion than the need to acquire experience in respect of this posted position.

Preparation of lectures and practicals, lecturing, creating assignments and exams, conducting field trips with students, marking, grade management, supervision of TA(s), and participation in the instructor/course evaluation process by students.
