Sessional Lecturer - CTL7014H - Fundamentals of Teaching and Learning

Course number and title: CTL7014H - Fundamentals of Teaching and Learning

Course description: This course will explore the complexity of schools and place of the school in the community. Practical issues around lesson planning, unit planning, classroom management, and the class as a community are addressed. This course provides a practical and conceptual introduction to the teaching of students and will introduce student teachers to many of the philosophies, methods, and materials relevant to teaching. It provides opportunities to develop an understanding of the process of becoming a teacher, insight into the role of ethics in research, and to acquire the skills and attitudes to be a thoughtful and reflective practitioner. In these respects, this course enables the student teacher to build a foundation for continuing professional growth as an individual and as a member of the teaching community. This course is normally open only to students in the Teaching program. This course is one of a pairing of courses to be taught by the same instructor in one of the Master of Teaching school-site cohorts. As such, one instructor will be hired to teach this course in pairing with the CTL 7006H 0142 Educational Research 1 course. This course is taught on-site at Valley Park Middle School in TDSB. The successful applicant must have demonstrated current knowledge grounded in existing professional networks with both Valley Park M.S. and TDSB, have demonstrated skills related to building community and program development involving a range of stakeholders (including school educators, OISE participants and administration, and community partners) and have extensive experience with and knowledge of supporting the intersection of educational research and professional learning in school-based contexts.

Salary As of September 1, 2026, the minimum stipend is $9972.475 (inclusive of vacation pay) for a half credit course.

As of January 1, 2027, the minimum stipend is $ $9972.475 (inclusive of vacation pay) for a half credit course. Salary may be prorated based on the appointment percentage.

Minimum Qualifications:

Candidates must: - Have demonstrated current knowledge grounded in existing professional networks with both Valley Park Middle School and TDSB educational priorities - Have TDSB leadership experience and expert knowledge of current TDSB education priorities and strategies - Demonstrate skills related to building community and program development involving a range of stakeholders (including school educators, OISE participants and administration, and community partners) - Possess a doctoral degree in a relevant discipline and/or equivalent professional experience - Demonstrate currency and mastery in the course subject matter - Demonstrate deep knowledge and experience in contexts, policies and practices of the division (Primary/Junior K-Gr. 6, Junior/Intermediate Gr. 4-10, Intermediate/Senior Gr. 7-12) - Demonstrate excellence in teaching, including online teaching as relevant - Demonstrate evidence of knowledge and practice of principles of equity, diversity, and inclusion - Demonstrate excellence in teaching and leading teachers/teacher-candidates professional learning - Possess an Ontario Teaching certificate with OCT qualifications in the relevant division

of duties: Prepare, organize, and teach this graduate course; be available to students seeking assistance between classes; evaluate and provide students with feedback on their work. Attend a pre-course planning/preparation meeting with the course instructional team, attend MT All-Instructor Meetings (AIM) and submit course syllabus as requested by the department. Liaise with school leadership and staff.
