Course description: An introduction to the disciplines of public health and the connections with engineering; quantitative and qualitative public health methods including study designs and statistical analysis; legal, regulatory and ethical frameworks applicable to public health; the structure and regulation of the public health and health care system; examples of common public health hazards to illustrate public health toxicology, exposure measurement and modelling, data analysis and prevention strategies.

Course Schedule: LEC Wednesdays 1-4 p.m. and TUT Tuesdays 12-1 p.m.
Sessional dates of appointment September 1 – December 30, 2026
Stipend$12,000 inclusive of vacation pay
Qualifications Ph.D. or equivalent professional experience in the area of Occupational and Environmental Health or Occupational Hygiene. P.Eng. is not required, but familiarity with engineering concepts is an asset. Expertise in the area of exposure assessment, workplace and environmental hazards, public/occupational/environmental health regulations, epidemiologic study designs, social determinants of health, public health toxicology and their applications within engineering is highly preferred.
Duties The lecturer will help prepare for and deliver 12 weeks of lectures and tutorials; set assignments and term work assessments and final assessment as appropriate; collate and submit marks; handle petitions after final marks have been submitted; communicating with students both inside and outside of class times. Preparation of a deferred examination may also be required.
